So this is it, folks!

Just having some lunch in the pub, then going to the Apple Store.

Final vote (please reply) SS or aluminium with cellular??

Thanks for all of your help and advice.

Exactly, they read from the same sheet we all can see and that has no info on the finishes on any model.
Different advisors have given different answers.

If you plan on getting the series 8 next year maybe alu this year? If not, why not go stainless.

SS has cellular, so you get cellular but your choice to add a contract to it. The difference between a cellular Alu and a SS is about £150, so if money isn't a factor then SS 110% ... the sapphire crystal and premium feel is worth the £150 and I go SS every time. If you decide to upgrade next year, you've paid £150 extra for SS over a year

So, what did you get?
I was in there for ages, comparing, and couldn’t make my mind up so left without one.

Seeing them side by side (Starlight & SS) I must say that the SS looks cheap to me. Looks almost plasticky, and I prefer the colour of the Starlight.

Cost isn’t an issue for me. All I know is if I do get an AW I’d want cellular.

The SS looks much nicer in photos. I wonder why it looks almost like a cheap toy in the flesh? Maybe it was the lighting?

I could also see little scratches on the SS model in the shop.

I’m now back to debating whether or not the AW is for me. I don’t go to gym anymore, don’t go for walks, basically I have mental health issues and am mostly housebound. I just wanted an AW for three reasons:

1: I just wanted to see what all the fuss is about.

2: FOMO :).

3: I thought it may help me with my mental health, by encouraging me to get active again.

Anyway, going back to your question, I think I like the Starlight over the SS. It’s such a nice colour, and I like the matte finish.

Thanks for your help.

For what it's worth, I had mental health issues ... in fact still do. I had extreme anxiety and I didn't leave the house. I had to get my neighbour to pick me up a carton of milk coz I was too anxious to leave the house to go to the shop and get it myself! The apple watch 110% helped me get out, do walks, close rings, be healthier and break out of it.

Whichever one you get, hope it all works out, and if you need a "chat" you'll find me here ;)

Thanks, buddy.

That’s very kind of you.

I’m glad you’re in a better place now, and I hope things are getting better for you.

The gesture goes both ways: I’m here should you need to get something off of your mind, or work through something.

Look after you :).

Can anyone share a pic on how the SS Silver compare to graphite?
I’m just about to pick Silver but on many pics graphite looks almost like silver, and Silver like pure mirror?

You should go to the Apple store if you can, and see the watches in person. I agree, the stainless graphite finish does look both bright and dark, depending upon the light. It really is a beautiful color! I went to the Apple store myself today to see the watches, and if they had in stock the 45mm Graphite SS, I would have purchased it then and there (and then cancelled my Verizon order for the silver SS which doesn’t ship for another MONTH). ?

I bought a graphite s7 and returned it after about a week. I couldn't get past how bad it looked with my stainless steel link band. I've been getting silver stainless steel Apple Watches since the s0, and it looks like I'll be sticking with silver. ?

Have you tried the natural Ti with your link bracelet to see if it matches?

Not yet. I'm debating whether to get a natural Ti this time, rather than the silver SS … it will match just fine; my bigger concerns are cost (I tend to upgrade each year, so the Ti feels like a waste of money compared to the SS, given the appallingly low resale value) and the fact that it looks so much like aluminum - I do kind of like the fact that the silver stainless steel stands out a bit. ?

Gotta ask you guys/gals......

I have the graphite Apple Watch 7 on as we speak. I had the SBSS Apple Watch 5 previously. My wife and everyone I have asked tells me the graphite looks way better than the SS. BUT, I am a watch guy thru and thru and have been for a very long time.

Even this morning I find myself looking at the SS Apple Watch 7. I really do think it looks more like a "watch" than the graphite I am wearing that seems to me to just be black brick on my wrist.

Is the SS so scratch prone that its going to be looking terrible in a couple weeks of wear or is it really just not all that noticeable in day-to-day life?

TIA for any insights!! ?

I am changing my mind each day as to what one I want to get. I have the Graphite for pick up on the weekend and will use it for the 14 days and see how it holds up. If too many scratches I might go with the silver so I can polish them out.

Up to this point I've had aluminium space grey and that has not shown any scratches apart from the one time I hit it into a door and it has a small scratch on the frame.

I think the Silver might be too flashy for me from some of the photos people have been posting. I've not seen the Ti models in person but from the product photos they look similar to the aluminium.
??

100% silver. DLC scratches are permanent, silver scratches are temporary.

That said, get what you like better and matches your style - that’s more important than worrying about scratches.
Found this interesting re All things DLC/PVD:
"Does a DLC watch scratch, and will it leave bright steel marks on the watch as the coating disappears?
The answer is that this can be an issue with some PVD-coated watches. Over time, the black coating will scratch. But with the DLC coating process, it is different...DLC coating, with its diamond-like applied black finish, you will not have to worry about scratching your watch. This coating will not disappear if you accidentally do something that would otherwise leave a huge mark on some PVD-method coated watches...

Also, the SS is meant to be noticeably more heavier than the aluminium?

I switch every day between S2 38mm Edition (ceramic) and S4 44mm Alu, with oem bands and 42mm SB link bracelet from a S2 42mm SbSS.
I really can’t believe how people could spent money in SS Apple Watch: heaver than hell, from S6 not in black but in “graphite” (and someone spent other money for Hermes in SB!), prone to scratch.
Ok, Alu don’t have sapphire, but with Link Bracelet (stainless steel!!!) is still lighter than SS, and this it’s also smaller (44mm Alu vs 42mm SS).
Every time I wear the SS I think how heavy it is, I can’t believe how could I appreciate every single gr. about it instead the others two.
Also the ceramic is better than SS, it’s lighter, shiny (if you like it), and beautiful than others.
SS reminds me an old fashioned Watch: obsolete object, Ti or even a plastic watch will be better.
The better part of SS watches are SS bands, but only ‘cause Apple doesn’t build Alu/Ti/Ceramic bands.

I've been a die hard SBSS watch since they released. Went to the Apple Store and looked at Graphite which was super nice, almost silver in certain lighting.

When I found out it was PVD rather than DLC like SBSS, I went with Silver. 2 days later, I'm loving my decision, nice change from that little black pebble. You can also buff out any scratches and polish silver SS to make it look new again.

i dont think the silver stainless Looks cheap. Moreover it doesnt feels cheap because of the additional Weight.

If I were you, and I was, I would go with the silver Stainless Steel. When the series 6 debuted, I wanted a silver but they were sold out. I got the graphite instead, and there were so many bands that I have had since 2015 that just didn't look right with the graphite. If you have an extensive band collection, then I would go with the silver Stainless Steel.

I went silver with the series 7 and I love it. It goes with everything. I love it most because the Apple stainless steel link band has come out of retirement. It's my favorite band for daily wear.

I think lots of people are pissed that there's no silver aluminum option this year. That was a huge misstep on Apple's part.

[EDIT] I see this is an old thread. ::: facepalm :::

Silver. I went with graphite and i notice a lot of bands just don't "fit" unless it's dark bands i'll definitely get silver next time, Graphite with dark bands look cool but it's rather limited in my opinion.

My prior watch was SS and I just bought a new Graphite SS. I think it looks fantastic and I was very ready for the change. To address a couple of the issues raised here, my silver didn't scratch excessively and any micro-abrasions buff right out. With just a bit of effort, you can keep it looking new as long as you want. It also goes with nearly any band you might choose, which will be a plus for those who want maximum variety.

That said, I really like the look of Graphite SS and am happy with my purchase. It's a rich, dark color that reflects beautifully. It won't go with as many bands (I agree that the above pics pairing it with the silver SS link bracelet don't work, for example), but I'm loving it with the darker, moodier bands I tend to prefer -- especially leather ones.

Given the lack of DLC (booo!), I may keep an old AW around for workouts, stuff in the garage, etc.
