Stand Alone Apps (no phone) for GPS only watch w/wifi connected

I have a need to use a GPS only Gen. 4 watch without phone (while connected to wifi). I am looking for third party apps that will operate as watch only (stand alone) apps. Specifically:

1) Podcasts. In particular, looking for an app that can download podcasts to the watch independently while on wifi (without the need of having previously synced them to the watch). I've heard Outcast is a choice, but have also heard it is a battery hog. Thoughts?

2) Phone calls (in an emergency). Is there a stand alone app that can make calls over wifi from the apple watch?

Those are the key apps that I need. However, I am pushing the capabilities of the AW to run independently on wifi both for need and personal interest. So, any knowledge of other cool/capable third party apps that can run independently on the watch w/wifi will be greatly appreciated.

I believe the watch can do if it knows WiFi, or you can try Google Voice.

Edit, damn it doesn’t have Watch app.

Thanks again for trying/responding. Yes, I WILL be connected to Wifi, but no associated iPhone. So, I'm seeking an app that can make calls over wifi and has a watch app!

When you say ‘no assiciated iphone’, what do you mean? The watch requires being paired to a iPhone, or it will not allow any use. After pairing, you can certainly take it out of range of the iPhone and use it standalone. WiFi calling is supposed to work if your carrier supports it and the watch knows about the WiFi you are using already.

Watch in question HAS been setup with an iPhone and is operational. However, the iPhone in question has no cellular plan. I am looking for an app that can do pure WiFi calling and will allow calls from the watch.

The iPhone doesn’t need a cellular plan to work on WiFi. Did you try connecting the iPhone to a WiFi, letting the watch grab said WiFi and then try calling with the watch? Isn’t that how FaceTime on the iPad works? It’s just needs an associated Apple ID, right? My kids have their own iPads and Apple IDs and they’re able to FaceTime over WiFi.

Yes, but I want to make phone calls to regular phone numbers. So will need something like google voice that can operate from the watch.I'm willing to pay for app and/or wifi phone call cost.
