I do not think that the retina MBP needs a special stand; therefore, mStand is a great stand as is the Griffin Elevator.

I called 12 South and they will be making an insert for the rMBP in their book arc that will come out in a few months. It works really well, so I'd wait for that.

Don't get a bookarc. Clamshelling severely bottlenecks your cpu/gpu. Diablo 3 ran at 20-35fps on medium settings at 1280x720 resolution while using a bookarc but ran around 50-70fps on high settings at the same resolution with the lid open connected to my TBD. This of course, was on the early 2011 Macbook Pro. It might be different with the new vents on the side of the rMBP.

Thats weird - why would clamshelling affect the GPU?

It has to be vent down. I've had mine vent down lid shut and it gets just as hot when open and in the standard position. Lid shut and in standard position is where you have a problem.

I'm using an Mstand I bought for my last MBP with the new Retina model. It works fine, as you'd expect, but one thing should be noted if you're planning on using the stand without an external keyboard & trackpad -- the Mstand is designed for the previous, thicker MBP and so there's a considerable lip that gets in the way of typing or using the trackpad. It's not major and since I use a bluetooth keyboard + trackpad with a thunderbolt display it doesn't bother me at all. But I imagine they'll eventually do something custom for the new models. Until then a couple of Field Notes books work ok to prop it up. :)

Hey guys, I didn't want to make a new thread to ask this so I figured I would ask here. :)

Does anyone know of another stand like the book arc that is out for the retina? Or are we going to have to wait for TwelveSouth to release their version?

I second the question. This is August 29 and TwelveSouth still has not yet released the insert mentioned nearly two months ago.
(BTW I have used ClamShell mode with my current MBP for the past three years . NO problem with heating or performance)

It's not the freaking holy grail. Use the same stand made for every Apple laptop in the last 5 years. There's no real difference.

The BookArc with Retina support is now available :) Mine has been ordered.

Got mine ordered too! It should be here Tuesday!

I got the BookArc Pro as well, but unfortunately the rMBP does not fit when using the Speck Smartshell. Does anyone have a suggestion for a vertical stand that can either fit rMBP with a shell case or is adjustable?

It's too thick for insert 7, but not thick enough for insert 5.

I agree that it's too thick for insert 7, but what makes you say its not thick enough for insert 5? It's definitely quite a bit looser and obviously doesn't sit quite as upright because of it, but won't it still work if you're not worried about the aesthetics? I guess i'm just curious what your concerns were as i've been using mine this way and don't want to cause it any harm from the loose fit.
