Hello, Mac wizards. Recently, I upgraded an old iMac (2009), using Open Core Legacy Patcher. On the whole, it seems to be working well. However, for years, I have used Pages and Numbers (iWork '09), and these apps do not work in Monterey. Also, I missed the opportunity that Apple once offered, to download an updated version of iWork.

It came as a big surprise to me, to find that it is not possible to open a Pages document in Monterey, using Apple's TextEdit! Can anyone point me in the direction of an app (free, if possible) that can open these years-old documents in Monterey? I also expected SoftMaker's TextMaker app to do this. It will open Word documents, but not Pages, and I don't want to spend many hours converting the Pages apps to Word apps.

With thanks in hopeful anticipation of a helpful reply,
C.H.

Can they not be opened with the free iWork suite from the Mac App Store?
Probably, but, as I remarked, I missed the limited-time opportunity to download it. It cannot be downloaded by me, any more. I don't know why they closed the offer to those that did not accept when it was offered.

If you previously installed Pages from the Mac App Store with the same Apple ID, you can get Pages v13.1 for Monterey (Appstore -> Press cmd+0 to open the »Purchases«-panel) Or if you know someone who has installed in the past and temporarily shares their ApleID to login and then install Pages&Co. via their »Purchases«-panel.

Thanks for the clarification, Slartibart. I have now installed Numbers and Pages into Monterey, from the App Store, and this has solved a huge problem. Just for interest. I should mention that, though Niumbers for Monterey will open the spreadsheets that I created years ago (in iWork '09), they are not much more than useless. This is because Numbers does not carry over the formulae that were entered for the various cells, into the Monterey version of Numbers. It's true! To be sure of having working spreadsheets, I find that it is necessary to export those old spreadsheets as Excel sheets (which Numbers allows, luckily). If that is done, the formulae are shown when the sheets are opened in Numbers for Monterey, and the spreadsheets still have some value.
With kind regards,
C.H.
