Your text mode chatting application since 1999.

Run the Installer. (this does not interfere with macports installs or require macports)
Then copy the Irssi icon/launcher to /Applications.
You can place the Irssi icon/launcher on the dock next to the trash can if you want.

Connect to a server: /connect irc.freenode.net (or any network)
Join a channel: /join #macgarden (or any channel)
Change nickname: /nick your-nick
Navigate through windows/tabs with esc+1, esc+2, etc etc.

I’ve been meaning to swing back around to this and to try to get it up and running on Build 10A96 of Snow Leopard for PowerPC, since for the time being, I managed to get macports compiled on it successfully (it was rather easy, in fact). MacPorts itself, however, is having fundamental trouble with compiling and installing anything (stuck, it seems, between being a Darwin10 environment, but all ports for Darwin10 being written only for Intel 32/64, and having more in common, architecturally, with Darwin9’s tri-architecture ports — except that Darwin 10.0.0d1 is not Darwin9).

Anyhow, I ran the .pkg for your irssi port to see whether I could get that up and running (or even to open the irssi binary directly from command line after adding /opt/macports/bin/ to export path). Without any further information in the logs, this is the Terminal feedback when trying to launch it:

~$: Applications/Irssi ; exit; setupterm() failed for TERM=xterm-color: -1 Can't initialize screen handling. logout [Process completed]

This is where I remain a bit stuck.

Anyhow, this is mostly a post to let you know how it went in the SL-PPC environment, being the unique hybrid that it is. :)

Interesting. What happens if you change your terminal? If you type: TERM=xterm and hit enter, all commands entered after that will assume you are using xterm. This may or may not solve it, but worth a shot. Since you are experimenting with SL-PPC, have you tried any of my other ports packages? I would think midnight commander should work, and maybe even most of the stuff i added to my leopard-ports package. I'd be curious to see what runs and what doesn't. You can find them all on the garden here.

Cheers

Yah, I had already gone ahead and tried that after I posted earlier today, just to see whether there was any variation. Alas, there was not.

It’s not the end of the world, though. Eventually, there should be some way to get irssi built and running in this quirky environment.

Right? I'm sure there's a way. I'm really more interested to know if bitlbee w/discord works on your hybrid as i havent had the time to attempt SL-PPC yet.

Cheers

Sorry to bump this old thread, but would it be possible to get a new version (1.4.2) compiled for PPC Leopard? I would normally use Macports to compile it myself, but for whatever reason I'm no longer able to compile it successfully. The client just doesn't connect to any of my servers for whatever reason.

Summer is my busy time at work, but i will revisit this in a few months when things slow down. In the meantime i'd suggest trying MacIrssi, XChat-Aqua, or LimeChat.

Cheers

Do you recall which was the last version of LimeChat to support PPC?
