Not getting the hang of the standing reminders. Often, I've been on my feet in the kitchen or doing other stuff without sitting, and JUST when I return to my desk to do some work, the reminder comes. It casually ignores that I've been on my feet for an half hour before... Why?
Also, I noticed that if you wake up early and then go back to bed, it sometimes doesn't recognize that I'm asleep and reminds me to stand up, which sucks when you're trying to get some shut eye after finishing a job in the early morning hours :/

How can I get the Watch to recognize that I've been standing before? I know I can trick the reminder with shaking my arm while sitting, so it should be able to notice that I have just been standing for a while? I know, it's not that of an important issue, but it can be annoying as hell if you just came home from a walk, sit down and the thing nags you to stand. Geeez!

I noticed the watch will alert me approximately 10 minutes before the hour. Don’t know of any way to change its setting.

It is kind of dumb sometimes. I will spend a half hour cooking and making lunch/dinner and then at X:50 my watch tells me to stand.

You do get reminders on the :50 of each hour. Achieving a stand is done by the watch registering actual movement/swinging of the arm. It's not as intensive as an exercise minute, but the watch needs to feel constant movement. Which I guess is why cooking doesn't trigger it - even though I might be in constant movement, I'm never going very far or very fast. For these hours I just wave my arm kind of hard, enough to trigger the stand, because I KNOW I was actually standing that hour.

I have also found out that you do not get an automatic stand OR reminder when putting on your watch the first time of the morning. You won't be alerted until after the first full hour of wearing it. This is kind of dumb, because you could get up at 6:45, but you won't be alerted until 7:50 that you need to stand. I now make a point of deliberately getting my stand accounted for as soon as I get up.

Thanks guys, you are right, it's exactly 10 minutes before the hour. Actually, that's kind of dumb, I had hoped the watch would only remind me when I was sitting in these 50 minutes before. But I'm amused by the thought of millions of Apple Watch users around the world jump up every hour at :50, trying to get their standing goals ;-)
I hope they can do some fine tuning about this. Also, it would be good if the watch knew when I'm having a nap and not bother me this time ;-) (The Huawei Watch GT does it exactly like this: only remind you to stand up when you've been sitting the hour before and not bothering you in your sleep, even while napping. So it's possible ;-) )

You only get the reminders when you get to x:50 and do not yet have Stand credit for that hour. You may have been standing, but the Watch hasn't given you credit yet for whatever reason. You will also not get reminders after you've hit 12 hours of stand credit for the day.

As for overnight, or when taking a nap, you can turn on Do Not Disturb. Otherwise, it will assume you're just being a lazy lump and poke you on the wrist. :)

So what kind of special things do I have to do to get standing credit? Because sometimes, I return from a walk, take of my shoes, go to my desk, sit for like 3 minutes and baaam... it wants me to get up ;-)

I have DND on my regular sleep times but I forget it when napping. Sometimes I need to get up at 4 for a job but then return to bed at 7 or 8. Then, the watch thinks I'm being a lazy bum :D

Unfortunately there is nothing "special" you can do. Sometimes it just fails....which is definitely disappointing, but theoretically, everything you had been doing should've triggered.

Not saying you're not doing it, because sometimes the system can fail, but you've got to have your arm wearing the watch down at your side for a full minute, or swinging like a casual walk, for it to count as a stand credit. If you don't have your arm at your side, loose to gravity, you may not get the stand credit, even if you're up actively doing things -- I've gotten the notice while I'm cooking or doing dishes if I haven't lowered my arms in the last hour.

The only way for the watch to know you're actually standing is if your arm and the watch are dependent to gravity, straight down.

Also, things like pushing a shopping cart, carrying larger items or holding a dog's leash with your Apple Watch arm can disrupt the step counter. Apple recommends you hold the leash in the other hand and let your watch arm swing freely.

Notifications come at 50 minutes past the hour (for everyone) if you haven't gotten your stand credit for the hour yet. It skips the hour in which you put the watch on, by the way (for example, if you put your watch on at 6:15 am and haven't gotten your 6am stand credit, it won't notify you at 6:50am). It'll also stop giving you notifications once you've gotten your 12 for the day.

Ah, the dog leash thing is interesting! Makes all sense, thank you. Hope Apple can tweak this a little further in the next version, though.

I’m experiencing same thing. I was moving during an hour, but at x:50 getting reminded that I have to move 😡.
It is easy to trick tho, it’s not so clever. Rotate your arm below elbow for ~30 seconds.

It is easy to make such dumb software if it isn’t critical.

But anyway will leave it on, at least something annoys me wen I really forgetting to move

I've actually had the opposite experience with it being "smart". I've been walking down the hallway, arms extended reading a piece of paper I'm holding and gotten stand credit.

It definitely works to register with your arm by your side. I use to march around swinging my arms to try and 'panic register' a stand hour if the watch hadn't deected it normally - sometimes that worked, sometimes not, but I've found that holding my arm by my side works 100% of the time to register an hour. Ican even do it sat down if I drape my arm over the chair arm.
