This is the weirdest thing and I'll have to contact Apple but I wanted to see if anyone had run into the same situation with other movies.

ST:B just showed up in my account after being preordered a few months ago. The weird part is that when played on either of my ATV 4G's, there are NO English subtitles (closed captions). The other languages are there as options. Other movies are fine and have all the English and other languages and work as expected.

In ST:B, the English option is not in the subtitle list when you swipe down from the top.

Here's the thing. On my iPad Pro and my ATV 3G's, the option and English subtitles appear as you'd expect, and work perfectly.

I've never seen this before and can't see why one movie would have a subtitle track that would not appear on one device type. No beta software, all are current. (Reboot shouldn't matter and doesn't help.)

Anyone seen anything like this on any other releases?

I agree is weird, but on to a solution: maybe you could try to select english closed caption in the general menu on the settings of your Apple TV. This is a separate option (it's not selecting subtitles), but it might help you.

Thanks but did all that. The English subtitles/captions just do not appear as an option and don't appear on screen on the ATV 4. I was more looking to see if anyone else that purchased the title could duplicate or if anyone had seen the same behavior on other titles.

It really makes no sense when other similar titles such as Zootoopia have English in the list and work perfectly. You can't even redownload the title because nothing is downloaded (for media) to an ATV 4.

I will be contacting Apple to see what they say.

I have the BD heading my way via Netflix so unfortunately it doesn't make sense for me to purchase it from iTunes at this point.

However had you tried restarting you ATV?

I had something very similar happen to me before except it was ALL movies and ALL subtitles. Restarting the ATV via settings (or maybe a power cycle, it was a long time ago) mysteriously fix it.

Maybe there is a bug in the GUI interface. Try using Siri with the following command while the movie is playing: "turn on subtitles"
