$20 for a file .... not gonna happen. i can get the BD+DVD+Digital Download combo pack for 14.99 after release.

studios are redic, why should a HD file be more expensive than a SD file? complete rip off just like cable providers. 5 bucks to watch a new released movie ONCE + 2€ more to watch it in HD ... please

I agree, especially what i bolded, but bet this is the hands of studios as well. Look at the digital copy with physical disc bundles. Some companies the digital copy is HD, others it isn't.

No media company has ever done this.... they want you to keep buying the same thing over and over.

Ditto. The physical copy, while available later, will cost less and be higher quality. If you want to upcharge for digital, you need to make it available same day as the theatrical release.

$25's not a bad deal for both...

Just wait a couple of weeks and you can get it for like $3 on Movieberry.com
in HD.

$24.99 Gives you 3D, Bluray and Digital copy! thats the way to go

If you get the 3D version it includes Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital.

this site looks like a pirated site. Has grownups 2 in divx lol

SD shouldn't even be an option anymore.

a lot of people don't have HD or care for HD. So paying a lower price for a movie that they can't tell the difference from SD to HD is a plus!

OR u know sell the HD one for the price pf the SD one in 2013 and get rid of SD. just another way for studios to rip one off

Is it better than the first JJA Star Trek movie? Because IMHO the first flick is one of the worst SciFi movies ever made... a bad joke and embarassing for Star Trek.

Well, the first one holds at 95% on RottenTomatoes (best of any Trek movie), and this one is at 87%. Your mileage, however, can apparently vary pretty wildly.

Already purchased and downloaded last night from iTunes :D

I now have all the Star Trek films digitally from iTunes, all except for Star Trek The Motion Picture, which I'm still waiting for iTunes to have in HD.

Say no to Ultraviolet

I'll wait and buy the Blu-ray since I have Start Trek 2009 on Blu-ray, but more importantly can we please remove/delete/get rid of all of this Ultraviolet BS, I wan't a digital file iTunes compatible to play on the iPad with the Blu-ray, instead of what we get from the studios with that Ultravoilet non-sense. I hate paying TWICE for a movie so I can have a Blu-ray copy and an iTunes/iPad digital file. That is all.

Im always curious what the numbers are that pay full price for a digital download (HD or SD). I always buy the physical disc months after release sometimes used for $3-4 or on great deals.

Foreg I bought the entire Star Trek original motion picture bluray set(first six movies) from Target for $10. Great deal that was very short lived.

I've seen my friend who aren't tech savvy at all that have an apple TV hooked up and will just buy/rent everything on there.

Nothing wrong with whatever people choose, just curious.

$20 for a movie is hard to swallow these days. I think they should really lower them to $10. I'd have a whole iTunes library full of movies if they weren't so expensive. As it is now I own none.

Oh....there have been worse Star Treks made. I liked the first Chris Pine movie better than the second. If you didn't like the first, you're going to hate "Into Darkness". A few laughs from recycled lines, but that's about it.

You know if you’re not paying the actual copyright owner in your country there isn’t a lot of point to paying to watch a movie.

So it should cost less to own it forever than to see it in the theatre once?

Sounds like a trekie mad that Star Trek had many, watchable action sequences and Vulcan got blown up.

Perhaps they should've instead had all fight scenes like this:

Nah, I'm not a Trekkie.. never was.. I like good Sci-Fi novels, especially from Stanislav Lem.

The first Chris Pine was no SciFi at all, it was a popcorn-action-movie, nothing intelligent about it.

If you’ve bought the blu-ray you’re within your rights to rip it with makemkv and make it iTunes compatible with handbrake or MP4 Tools. Not as convenient as getting it in iTunes format to start with, but just as cheap and perfectly legal.

Really? It's the same price as blu-ray.

Also, new release prices have always come out at $19.99 MSRP. Why should it change? If anything, inflation should have driven these prices up long ago, but they haven't, which I think is a great thing. Unfortunately, you're already seeing this inflation with music prices, as many new release tracks now sell for $1.29 instead of $0.99 a few years ago, and some album prices ranging from $12.99 to $14.99 instead of $9.99. Movie prices will never go down in price. Ever. Studios would never allow it. Especially as the quality (SD > HD > 4K > ???) and services (iCloud) both increase at the same time. If anything, they will eventually go up.

Another example of inflation, although one that is sort of erratic are game console game prices, which have fluctuated from $49.99 - $59.99 from generation to generation. At least movie prices have remained consistent for the last two consecutive generations. Let's hope it stays that way for movie prices and doesn't go up.

Outside of spending $5 for a Louis CK comedy special, I still find it extremely hard to buy movies in digital format and for so much money. I get all the benefits of digital... I guess I just still like the ease of sharing discs and knowing (sort of morbidly) that they can be easily passed on when I... pass on.

It's not that much better quality. Almost unnoticeable difference between iTunes HD and BluRay actually.

Plus, if you purchase on iTunes, it's available in the iTunes cloud, and you can watch it anywhere on an iDevice, AppleTV, or Mac. This is why I bought The Dark Knight Rises on iTunes.

Pretty much. Any "loss" in quality, which I understand there is, is absolutely trivial to general consumers. The rewards of convenience of having your content available anywhere and anytime is greater IMO.
