From what I've read yes, but more like high if you want smooth performance for multiplayer. I'm excited to try out single player on ultra though. Until now I've been playing on low/medium.

i have noticed that the GPU clocks itself down after a few minutes of playing sc2... resulting in a bad FPS.

wtf is this? too hot or what?!

all you have to do is install gfxCardStatus (or at least tick the box in SysPrefs) and make sure to run the game in discrete-only! The reason for the stutter is because from time to time when the load drops, you move to the integrated card, which isn't totally terrible in itself, but that transition will give you a momentary freeze, which will make the game infuriating to play. On my high-end 2010, I can usually have most settings on high, not ultra, but I can at least keep a 30-60 framerate, which I couldn't even dream of with the dynamic switching.

SC2 is playable on Medium in massive Multiplayer with way over 30 FPS...

But i have a strange problem: on high the fps is also quit playable, but as protoss i got only around 20-30 fps when i am in building mode (when the blue circles are shown around pylons).

can anyone confirm that there is a massive fps degrease? (from 60 fps to 20 fps).

Yes, it's weird but even putting a transparent skin over the ground seems to make the game lag. On a 2009 MBP with ultra settings and low shaders, I seem to drop at least 8fps whenever I select all pylons in mid-game. Never an issue before 5 pylons, but after that when they start to overlap and stuff, FPS takes a hit.

Hmm I play on all Ultra and the game runs fine. It staggers at some points but I only have 4GB of RAM. If I added another 4GB, I'm sure there will be more allocated to the VRAM as virtual memory.

But I haven't played since I updated to 10.6.7. I'll check it out tonight or tomorrow and get back to the thread.

So, you get ultra settings fine on a 13" and the 15" cant even do that? I've only heard bad things about the 2011 13"...
