I'm definitely looking forward to the release of the long awaited SC2, I'm sure whoever is reading this is as well.

I'm just wondering how the game is going to run on my MBP (most recent generation), and on what settings. Anyone have estimates of framerates on different settings?

    EDIT: Ooooooops, MBP* (title)

According to Blizzard you should be able to run the game in medium. (See here.)

If you play in Boot Camp you'll get around 15% better performance. I've got an older Radeon 2600, so I'm thinking of not playing the game in OS X...:(

Hey Jphilippon, I believe you'll do just fine. Also check that link about above that CougarCat gave you.

Will a high res screen affect graphics/gameplay?

I played throughout most of the beta (since the release of the Mac client, at least) on the iMac in my signature with zero problems on mostly medium settings and slightly lower-than-native resolution. Honestly, it still looked really great.

(Though, I am finally giving serious thought to building a gaming rig now...)

I have the current gen MBP and for me, to get 30-40FPS I had the graphical based settings to low and CPU based to medium... This was in OSX, although following the SC2 boards, apple has an nivida driver due to be released and Blizzard themselves have improved performance but it will be patched in after release since it's already been gold.

In bootcamp I've heard medium with some high settings so if you are all about that, use bootcamp. Me, I like staying in OSX if I can.

It runs fine (but at low settings) on my MBP + 9400m. Is it worth it to install in bootcamp and reboot when I want to play?

Boot Camping it is rumored to increase the performance level.

It's more than worth it to simply reboot and play especially since the 9400m is not even the above minimum requirements. You'll see gains from playing in windows, it's not a rumor, it's fact.

You will likely run on medium settings at release if you want a functional frame rate (at or above 30 fps).

I've been in the beta since the beginning of the mac phase with my 17" i7 macbook pro and the performance has fluctuated considerably from one patch to the next but at the end of phase 2 beta I was getting 35-40 fps on high settings at 1920x1200. I noticed that playing in windowed mode (smaller resolution) had a HUGEEE effect (much more than I would have guessed) on frame rate so the fact that you'll be playing on a 13" screen may actually make up the difference between the 13" and 17" CPU/GPU specs.

There was a lot of talk a while back about Apple badly needing to update their drivers both in the Steam community and in the Starcraft community so I'm still holding out for that. I suspect that down the road with some optimization on both Blizzard's and Apple's part, the game will only run smoother and smoother.

There's no rumor about it. Starcraft2 performs way better in windows than osx.
