Am I the only one that thinks this would be the greatest thing since sliced bread???
I don't think it would work that well. I'm happy with Galcon for my RTS needs . Can't wait for SC2 .
It does seem like SC and perhaps WC or WC2 would make really good, relatively inexpensive ports that would rack up significant sales assuming they had local and distance network play.
Games aren't really the #1 thing I want on my iPhone, but I think the iPhone is a case where the standard operating procedure for the console handhelds (esp. DS and GBA, and now even for the live arcade systems that the newest consoles have), where many old games from the catalog are re-released makes a lot of sense. It would be great if the major development houses made a quick catalog of games from the GBA/SNES/N64/PSX/Saturn eras available for the iPhone, as well as games from the appropriate computer era, like SC.
Have you even thought up of how the UI will look?? It seems that Starcraft on the iPhone would have such a cut down UI that the amount of people who get it won't cover the cost of porting it.
Every Starcraft player I know (even the casual ones) have such a reliance on the fact that a keyboard has so many keys and that the UI takes up half the screen, that cutting it down will turn off everyone.
So I think it's just you.
Diablo would be much better from a UI sense. I would love either on the iPhone though.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I would pay good money for Starcraft on my iPhone. After many hours of Fieldrunners, I know it could be done, and done well.
What are you waiting for Blizzard?
If my iPhone played starcraft I would never set it down. They reworked many ID titles and SimCity well. No reason they couldn't do it with SC.
I think it is doable, especially EA managed to revive SimCity 3000 port on the iPhone. I would play it for sure. haha
I suggest you play Sim City for iPhone before wanting that. I like it, but it's just not the same as on a full computer. The extra time to do stuff like build roads and water pipes isn't a big deal on something like Sim City, but in Starcraft or Warcraft you could be getting your arse waxed.
I run into a slightly related problem with Real Soccer 09. It's nice to have a virtual control pad, but I end up jamming my finger outside the circle when I REALLY want to go fast (which I don't think I can on offense) and only have two buttons to control with. That's hard after you've been spoiled with PES 2008/2009 on Wii and have about 8 buttons and the Wii remote to use for essentially the same game.
These games are worth the sub-$10 prices I'm paying for them, but I just don't think you can do RTS games on an iPhone if you get as in depth as Starcraft, Warcraft, etc.
Try playing Land Air Sea Warfare or Warfare Inc
Closest things i could find to starcraft
i think starcraft on the ipad would be fantasticcccc. esp if you could play online against people on the computer.
Considering SC 2 has been in development for 7+ years, I think they are waiting for the WOW cash cow to stop giving milk before wasting their time on anything else.
I think playing a user with a computer would be unfair..as nice as the ipad is the computer user would always have the advantage (ie..bigger screen, keyboard, mouse, ect)........
I dont think it would be crazy for blizzard to make a version for ipads..and for iphones...considering how many people have them it wouldnt really be that much of a niche market..plus there wouldnt really have to be tooooo much editing of the original product..keeping it cost effective
