After years of trying to game on a mobile I have given up. I bought a Nintendo Switch but loath Nintendo games and am not prepared to pay inflated prices of titles which are available at a fraction of the price on Steam. I recently put a custom firmware on the switch so I can play old arcade games which has given it some value. I would love for Blizzard to port Starcraft and Warcraft 3 to iPad, I would even pay full price £30 to support that endeavour.

Yeah there’s always the risk of spoilers but a lot of players are really good at warning about them.

The cynicism is strong with this thread. As mentioned previously, this is easily one of the best games released in the last 10 years. The value per dollar here is pretty much unmatched. It is my favorite game on the switch and it is absolutely amazing that one person created the whole thing (in C#). The graphics are rich and surprisingly detailed for 2D sprites and the music is fun and catchy as hell. Hopefully the port to iOS opens the game to tons more people so they can experience its magic too.

Some games are newsworthy. Once Skyrim inevitably gets an iOS release, that will be a big deal, simply because of the amount of players who love Skyrim.

In the same vein, when one of the top five highest rated games of the last decade makes it to iOS, and the developers decide to forego the usual consumer assrape of micro-transactions and pay to win content, that's newsworthy as well.

I personally haven't even played the game, but Ive been following the development with great interest for years. As a hobby developer, this success story is quite an inspiration to me.

Tomb raiders newest game actually was in the new recently after charging gamers full price for the game and then a month later after release doing ridiculous price cut. Pretty much scammed everyone who bought it for full price, myself included.
I loved these games as well but stardew valleys creator won't scam his fanbase

Is it worth it?

To me, yes. But that's a subjective question. I think if you like Sim City type games, you will probably like Pocket City. Here is a review.

Personally, I enjoyed it enormously and even got addicted (stayed up way too late playing it, tried to play it whenever possible, etc.). But I admit that it is a little too easy and doesn't have much depth. I switched to "Expert" level on my third city and never looked back. Also I would like to see more content.

It can be cramped on an iPhone--I see you have an SE. It is playable on iPhone 8, but I do prefer using a tablet.

I hope this game make the devs a fortune.

It's so nice to see a company sell a good complete game for one price rather than a defective by design, IAP-hell "game". The better this sells, the more likely we will see real games in the future.

I used to love iOS gaming, but this will be my first purchase in years. I gave up years ago because of all the IAP trash. TouchArcade used to be a daily visit for me, I don't think I've even loaded the page in 2 years.

I... had an SE. The thing is.. it got wet, and died recently. I have it on silica gel to dry it before trying to resurrect it, but I'm not sure I will succeed. So there are two scenarios:

- 1) I resurrect my SE. Then, hopefully, Apple will refresh the iPad mini on the next Apple Event, and I'll buy Pocket City, Stardew Valley, and other "pay once" games that may be worth it.

- 2) My SE is dead, and it cannot be fixed (warranty doesn't apply to wetted devices), therefore I'll be buying an iPhone 8 or a Xs, I'm not sure yet. No need for an iPad mini, and impossible to spend so much money at once. So I'm planning to play a lot more serious games, like Pocket City or Stardew Valley with a bigger iPhone.

The only problem with Stardew Valley is that it remembers me to my ex-gf. She wanted to play it, talked to me about it, there is a romantic component on the game story that will sting me when it happens, because I've been single since then, for three years. And it hurt to read romantic and happy stories. Way too off-topic, excuse me.

I'm curious if this game is optimized for an XS Max. That is - does it take up the entire screen?
