Start-up in mute

is there a way to start-up in mute? for example, when you press the power button the mac will start-up without the start-up sound. this would be really helpful when in class.

one solution is the shutdown in mute but i dont always remember to do that.
another solution would be to plug in headphones but thats just a workaround.

or just tell every one in class to deal with it. haha. or don't shut it down and just leave it on sleep. 🙂

If what you primarily want is to not actually mute the Mac but to disable the startup chime, then there are many, many, many ways to disable the startup chime... including but not limited to this one:

On my PowerBook you can start up in mute by holding down the mute sound button (F3). Haven't tried it on other computers...

i think the easiest way is just to mute the computer before you shutdown. then when you restart, it will be in mute (or whatever volume level you left it at).

Why bother shutting down? Thats the easiest way 😉
