Is there anyway i can get programs to open when start-up my Mac, but run in the back ground instead of the window popping up?

Mail and iCal open when i login, but it annoys me when the windows pop-up.

    Thanks.

You can set them to start hidden. Check out the Login Items in Account preferences.

You can hide them via SystemPreferences ...accounts... login items ... and then you can mark "hide it".
