Start up the ipod where it left off

Hey everyone,

So I am listening to some lectures on my iphone, so it is important that I can get back to where I left off last on the ipod. I know that it saves the state if I only close it for a little while, but today I noticed it was still where I left it yesterday. Is there some way to make sure it will keep the state saved for the next time you use it?
