I want to do a full erase and install of OS 10.3 on a G4 Titanium PowerBook with a broken CD drive.

1. I have read the article “Installing 10.4 without DVD”, and wanted to try this with an external firewire HD, but Disk Utility does not let me select “install disk # 1” as the source.

2. I also have a new Intel Mac with 10.5 and thought about using the “target disk mode” for install, but am not sure what would happen if I tried to boot the Intel Mac with the 10.3 install disk.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Maybe you can put the Mactel in Target Disk Mode, and stuff the 10.3/10.4 disc in, then boot the G4, and hold Option. Select the remote CD/DVD to boot from, and install.

You can't actually boot the 10.3 disc on an Intel Mac. It only works on PowerPC.
