Startup error

Hi All - My Mom's mac (Macbook5,1) is showing the following on start up.
Anyone come across this before - have any ideas on what might of happened?

It is a kernel panic.

If you have any external peripherals attached, disconnect them and see if the computer will start normally. You could also try a safe boot by holding down the shift key.
