I've seen a lot of negative press on this monitor but nothing recent. How is this monitor in late 2019? Are the launch compatibility problems solved? I plan on using it with the 16" MBPro. I have the LG 5k now but considering returning it - the 5k2k is cheaper with more screen real estate + more ports so it's usable with more computers in the future.

If you want an ultrawide screen with retina-like resolution, the LG 5K2K is still the only game in town. I have it connected to a 2018 mac mini but needed to add an eGPU to drive the display smoothly in a scaled resolution. As the 16“ MBPro has a dedicated GPU, that should work out just fine. In general I love this screen and see no real visual loss in comparison to the iMac 5K I had before. Sleep from wake is a little glitchy, but that may be down to the added complexity of the eGPU in the chain.

I heavily considered this monitor. You might be aware, but the 5k2k is a lower ppi than the 5k (equivalent to a 4k 27''), but the difference might not be as noticeable to you though. If you do go for it, look into getting the BK model over the WK. It is available on amazon and for business customers with a 3-yr warranty vs a 1-year on the consumer version.

How does the default resolution look like compared to standard macOS (regarding font size, etc.) Does it it need to be scaled down to increase the fonts and icons?
The Thunderbolt port doesn't seem to work properly on this monitor in Catalina is that correct? Can it power-up the MBP16"?

That's my biggest concern with this monitor. Native mode will have text be too small, and "pixel doubling" mode will likely have text too large, and I'd prefer not to run in scaled mode.

These are exactly the reasons why I do run the display in a scaled mode. If you have a dedicated GPU (internally or as an eGPU), everything is smooth and sharpness/resolution are really good.

I was really hoping for more options to be announced at CES. Very disappointing.

My MacBook Pro is my primary computer, but I also like to play games on a Windows PC. I need a curved ultrawide “retina” display with both Thunderbolt 3/DisplayPort inputs and variable refresh rate support at 100hz (or preferably higher).

So frustrating to not have any options available. Gamers with Macs exist, LG.

I recently returned my LG 38WK95C-W for LG 34BK95U-W which is the business version of the 34WK95U-W though it is smaller it is a much better experience compared to the 38" due to the higher PPI count. Everything looks crisps and would have to look hard to see the difference between the 34" and my 16" monitor.

I am wondering what resolutions you guys are using with the 34WK95U-W?

Do any of you use it through a dock as well? I have connectivity issues when I use it through my CalDigit TS3 Plus.

I returned mine few months ago because of image retention. Maybe newer models doesn't suffer from this issue?

Have M1 Mac (tested with both MBA and mini) connected to LG 34WK95U-W monitor using the supplied Thunderbolt cable at "Default for display" resolution which is 2560 x 1080. https://d.pr/i/OXveDc (selected Scaled so I can show the resolution for screenshot)

When the Mac wakes up from sleep occasionally the resolution becomes 3440 x 1440 (https://d.pr/i/lchkBc) and text is not crisp (or close to retina-like). It goes back to normal if I unplug the cable and plug it back in.

DisplayPort version setting in the monitor is set to 1.2.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
