Authorized repair guy says it could be a software problem. It happens during boot up and sometimes after waking up.

He held the option button and then it boots but comes back. I'm guessing its a motherboard/graphics card problem.

Anyone with the same experience?

Unit still is covered by Apple Care but I'd like to see what others have experienced.

Thanks

Backup all of your important data, reinstall OSX using internet recovery(don't restore your backup yet), and reboot your computer a few times to see if the static goes away. If it seems to be gone, it was likely a software issue.

I have never seen that, but it may just be a loose cable connection.

As you are within warranty, use that tomorrow if you can.

Thanks, for the embedding tip. As for software, I've tried booting from a clean OS and it still happens.
