The water in the pool moves and the swimmer constantly swims against the current. I have used one before and you can adjust the flow from slow and easy current to near white water!
Is there one in the UK?

In a few days, it's the official Rhine swim in Basel. This is even worse than swimming and not moving - you swim and go backwards. it's virtually impossible (for me, anyway) to swim against the current. A few hardcore swimmers try but really all we do is walk 2-3km upriver, get in, and float back downriver (with our clothes in a drybag/"wickelfisch") before getting out (and receiving a medal for not drowning if it's on the official day).
My 6S isn't waterproof. I took one from one of the start points and one as I was walking to it (before the river got really full of people), but for the rest you'll need to google "Rheinschwimm 2018". This years is on Tuesday. Looking forward to it!

No, not at all. You jump in, float down, get out. And on the official day (which was meant to be today but has been postponed to next Tuesday due to crappy weather) you get a souvenir medal of participation. Definitely not a competition. Is it supposed to be a competition?! Doesn’t look like one.
Hi there. I am considering an endless pool and was wondering about this? Have you considered changing the pool length to the distance you are going to swim (e.g. 1,000m). Work out what the time is for the pace you are swimming at, start the watch and stop the watch when you reach the time. Would that not give you 1 length measured at 1,000m, so everything should all work? My S4 allows me to set the pool length to anything (although it takes a little while to get there). Can you try and let us know if it works?is there support for this in the workout app? no matter what i try, only get weird results.
pool swim, size zero meters, wont let me start. 1 meter works, but results are idiotic.
why not just count strokes and estimate calories based on that?
does anybody know a way?

I would imagine this is something very hard for a watch to track.
