I'm gonna say this one more time. No one can connect to his microcell if he didn't add there number to it. I had one over a year. You have a sprint one could be different idk but At&t's version doesn't allow others to connect to his unless he adds them.
I'm not on Sprint (the router is an ASUS so I kept it) any more and never had an mcell (as I mentioned) because I've never been with AT&T. So I stand corrected there. The Sprint Airave is different than the router in the picture though. I sent the Airave back, not the router. T-Mobile, which I am with now does not allow you to restrict access to the Cellspot. I forget what Sprint allowed or did not allow.

I will repeat my own question again though. How does WiFi calling facilitate SMS delivery?

Customer loyalty rofl!

ANYTHING to prevent me from switching to dirty t mobile
Dude I don't care if you switch to them or not I'm just trying help you out. I don't even have At&t so why I would I care. I actually hate att cause there a bunch of crooks but they still have better service then T-Mobile.

That's who I was referring to

It just does. I have no problems sending anything with mine over wifi calling. Without it at my house service sucks. With any carrier I've had att, us cellular and T-Mobile for one week now Verizon. And they all have bad service here at my house since I'm in a valley. The wifi calling works great.

Call quality and maintaining connection is main concern. Texts go through and picture messages but if it takes a little longer that's ok with me.

Mine doesn't take long at all. Works like a charm. What's it hurt to try it anyway? You have nothing to lose. It's as simple as going into the settings and turning wifi calling on.

We had an issue when we were with Sprint of getting text messages at all. So that's how we ended up with the Airave. Only a handful of people I know use iMessage.

We have a very strong 4G signal at home with T-Mobile though, but they sent me the Cellspot because I complained it wasn't LTE. No issues with text messages there either then.

I just have an issue with paying a carrier for cellular and then using WiFi to make the calls I am paying the carrier for. Other people don't have that issue so that's all personal choice. If WiFi calling works for you and you have no other issues stick with that.

Yeah just my opinion but your using wifi anyway when you have to connect a tower to your router.

I hear ya, but considering Im not even paying for att unlimited, I'm piggybacking, doesn't bother me that. and dont see the distinction between that and 'relying' on mcell, in both cases its with ISP

Wifi Calling, out of my own ignorance, may have solved my predicament.

and will cause me to put mcell in my closet upon arrival,

Did you try it out? The wifi calling

The Cellspot (and the Airave before it) use an Ethernet cable to connect to my network. Not trying to be picky, but there's nothing WiFi about the Airave or the Cellspot. All they broadcast is cellular.

I don't use my home WiFi for my cellular capable devices at home for the record.

Oh well the microcell has to be connected to a router for it to work. So there for it's using internet

Well, the flaw in my argument should anyone care to call me on it, is that I AM paying T-Mobile to use my home internet connection as backhaul. Something I swallow hard and accept as long as I see "LTE" on my devices. :)

Yeah me personally I have unlimited data with Verizon but I just use wifi when I get around it cause it helps other people that's on the towers. So they don't get so congested. Once again tho just my opinion.

How very egalitarian of you. Let thy neighbor shred through his hotspot as a permanent ISP connection for light tablet use, at the expense of taxing the tower with your voice.

I hear you. I have unlimited data as well.

If I was using my iPhone or iPad as many use them though I would switch to WiFi as well. However, when I'm home the majority of what I do is done using the Macs I have at home. My iPhone and iPad may be on cellular but the extent of their data use while at home is going out and grabbing weather data and email. I don't use them to stream video or play games. I have better devices for that.

I'd argue that I use LESS data at home than I do outside of home.

But as you said, just a personal thing.

Houston we have lift off

Would there be any advantage to mcell with att wifi? To have full signal and not have it hunt / better battery maybe / warm tingly feelings. Thoughts?

Still haven't ruled out t mo it has been impressive service in my limited time with it in my neck of the woods

Caution, writing a book here lol.

I've been with att for a decade and ever since the iPhone came out had been on the grandfathered unlimited data plan(GUDP) that they no longer offer. Since then I've added 2 other people to my account, one which is a GUPD and the other a single shared mobile data plan. The total was about $240 before my FAN discount which brought it down to roughly $105.

Once the latest udp's came out, which for me would come out to roughly $175 plus taxes, I thought it was a no brainer to switch because after my fan discount I would've been saving a decent chunk of change off of my bill.

Come to find out att no longer accepts the fan discount on the new plans.

After having a short debate with a coworker, who's mentality is save every penny except when it comes to high end brand names, about how with our huge fan discount(80%) no other carrier is a better option than att he mentioned how much he is paying for T-Mobile.

That got me looking into tmobiles offering and it turns out T-Mobile has great coverage in the Bay Area. They also had an amazing promotion for 2 lines of unlimited everything including tethering for $100, including tax, per month. Then they had a short promotion of an additional 3rd udp for no additional charge. Even the lte data limit before throttling was higher than att, 28gbs vs 22gbs.

3 udp's offering better services than att in the areas I mostly use my phone for $100 vs $240($105) before a FAN discount? At this point I'm on my way to a T-Mobile store to make sure this deal is real. After about a 20 minutes discussion trying to find out what the catch was I decided to purchase the promotion and figured I can cancel it if in my research there really is something horrible about the deal. I didn't want to miss out on this promo.

I'd still need to unlock to unlock my iPhones to be to work with t-mobile anyhow.

So the the very next day after submitting my requests to get my phones unlocked T-Mobile announces another promo, port over your number from another carrier and trade in your old iPhone for a free upgrade to an iPhone 7! I guess that would solve the unlock problem. Later on that day I found out about another promo which gave an additional 20% off your bill forever which would bring it down to roughly $80 per month for 3 udp.

If you're still reading I'm wrapping this up.

I told my family members who's contracts were already up to go to the T-Mobile store and upgrade their phones lol. I decided that I'd just pay my etf and moved my 6s+ over and upgrade to a 128gb 7plus.

In summary:

3 udp + tethering + all the weekly promos and hd streaming and airline wifi and more for $80 a month VS $105($175-$240) plus tax for less with att.

BYE ATT!

The only downside, which fortunately for me is a rare occasion, poor to 0 coverage in rural areas. That being said I'm actually getting more signal in certain areas than I was with att.

Is that a universal truth of t mobile? Bad or no signal in the outskirts?

for right now, in my neighborhood/immediate surrounding, T-Mo gets better coverage and speed

around the city, its hard to gauge. only had prepaid 2 weeks and only been bringing both 7+ and SE out on att and tmo as of the other day to continue testing coverage, etc

And that's crazy your bill went 240 to 105. That's like a 57 percent discount. Mine was 24 percent lol

If you look at the service map T-Mobile has some work to do to provide service in the rural areas. Apparently some people who have verizon can confirm this although they've never tried T-Mobile.

My fan discount was 80% but only applied to the data plans.

Either way I don't plan on staying with the company I'm at now for too much longer and didn't want to depend on my FAN discount to get a decent deal. My company also does audits to get former employees removed.

Either way if T-Mobile is great in your area and you don't spend a lot of time in dead areas I'd say check out T-Mobile.

Can't beat 3 lines for $80. Not even the lower tier carriers can offer plans like that.

it would just be solo line for myself for $56, but increasingly tempted to!

and worst case, can always re-port # back to family plan and become a $20/access charge burden again

just so torn, never been so torn on some tech decision in recent history

carriers are a messy biz, with a lot of implications

Even with two bars a block away from apartment complex I start pulling 50 down on 7+ att
