Hello - please treat me gently! I'm a middle aged lady who doesn't really understand the ins and outs of unlocking iPhones, hence I'm appealing for help!

I have a jailbreaked UK version iPhone 1.1.2 with the new bootloader, and it is running on O2 Simplicity just fine here in the UK - not the expensive O2 iPhone contract. However I want to run it on Orange, so a friend suggested I bought a StealthSIM.

The StealthSIM has arrived, I have cut the Orange card to shape [taken off a bit of the corner as per instructions] - but it doesn't work. The iPhone just reports "no sim" all the time. On looking at my Orange simcard, the contact square appears to be a different shape to those on the StealthSIM. The StealthSIM contacts are to one side of the simcard, whereas on my Orange sim card they are in the middle of the card - if you see what I mean! Is this what could be causing the problem? If so, what can I do about it? It is quite a new Orange sim card - I think I got this new one last year. The old Orange sim cards had different shaped contacts I think?

All advice would be gratefully received as I have no idea what I am doing. I hope this is the correct place to post this cry for help.

    Hi,

I think that is necessari to jailbreak the iPhone before install the stealthsim.

Do you have pictures of both the stealthsim card (both sides) and your sim card?

The phone is already jailbreaked and working on O2 PAYG. I want to get it to work on Orange.

I'll have a go at posting some photos. Here is the Orange sim card. You can see where I cut it to fit the StealthSIM as per the instructions. This one has the contact pad centralized on the card, whereas my older Orange PAYG sim [which does work with the StealthSIM] has the contact pad slightly to one side. Unfortunately this sim which isn't working, is the one I want to use because it is my Orange monthly contract sim card!

I'm having problems taking a photo of the StealthSIM to show the contacts. Keeps coming out all burry or not showing up at all. I'm not very good at this! Either that or the iPhone doesn't do close up photos very well.

The iPhone camera, like many other phone cameras, is fixed focal. It cannot adjust focus if you are too close.

You will get a better focus if you are not that close. Put all sim cards together (sim that works, sim that doesn't work, and stealth sim), and take a picture of all of them.

The best case scenario is that you might need to cut your sim card a little bit on the side so it will be in contact of the stealthsim (but will need good photos to see first).

In the worst case you can go to the store, and tell them that you need to change your sim card on an older sim card.

The sim card on the left as you look at the photo is the old style Orange sim card that will work with the Stealthsim. But you can't get those any more - it's a very old PAYG one.

The Orange sim card on the right as you look at the photo is the newer sim which doesn't work with the Stealthsim. But unfortunately this is the one I need to use as it is my Orange contract sim.

I took these photos from a distance away but they are still pretty blurred. It may be my shaking hand causing the problem - I have arthritis.

great! I want to do the same

    Great news Carrie...

I think I have the new orange sim...but I also have an old one laying around that I never activated.

So you just tried again and it worked?

Fabulous...I'll be picking up my US iphone today then and going through all the steps.

    Anne :)

I think it's a question of jiggling around with the placement of your own sim card on the StealthSIM until it actually works! Even the tiniest bit of an inch can make all the difference. All I can say is, keep trying.
