Many digital store fronts add good with refunds. One reason is that payment gateways sometimes charge $5-20 for a dispute. As a result it’s cheaper to refund a customer than trigger a dispute that will cost way more than what the digital good is worth.

Nintendo and Sony don’t! They warn you once you download the game you cannot get a refund. Steam and Xbox are definitely the exception and show how it should be done. I’m in two minds on whether to play Atomfall on PS5 or Steam Deck lol.

Oh really? I have only refunded through steam and Xbox store.

Saw this on Reddit - feel it might be a bit inflammatory for the Switch 2 thread ...

Ok, so I tried out the top tier GeForce Now sub on the Steam Deck OLED as the app is officially out now. And well, it allows me to run any game totally maxed out and runs at a solid 90FPS consistently...
That includes Unreal Engine games like Robocop. Pretty impressive, I have gigabit fibre internet, I had zero lag or issues.

Not sure if it's worth £20 a month, but it is certainly impressive, playing Robocop natively on the Deck looks so bad I actually missed where I was meant to go, I saw it brilliantly on the GeForce Now. I tried Cyberpunk and it just looked more shiny lol. But everything maxed out again.

The games certainly look the best they can on any handheld that's for sure but obviously your limited to staying in the house to play them.

Nice - maybe I should give it a try.

I'll have my switch 2 for the Nintendo games and maybe some well optimized 3rd party games like Cyberpunk

I linked my Xbox Game Pass account to GeForce Now, and it runs the PC version of course, so playing DOOM The Dark Ages completely maxed out again on PC settings at a solid 90FPS! Looks like the GPU they give you has 20GB of VRAM dedicated to it, more than enough. Looks good on the Decks OLED screen.

Well, shockingly I had to trade my Steam Deck in, I worked out it was giving my right thumb RSI! I had pains in my thumb for ages and I just through it was from using my iPhone 14 Pro Max. But I stopped playing my Deck for a while and the pain subsided, but I then noticed when I went back to it the pain came back?! So I stopped using it again to see what would happen and the pain went away…

So I happened to see a Claw 8 in my nearest CEX store, I was kinda interested in it before but wanted to hold one before I bought it. Curry’s is the only place in the UK that sells them and they NEVER have any stock. So I traded my Deck in and upgraded in a sense.
I bloody HATE Windows lol but it is a very powerful device, and my thumb hasn’t had the pain return as bad, it has felt a little uncomfortable after playing but nothing like what I was getting. And all is forgiven off my iPhone.

I do miss Steam OS but am enjoying using my Game Pass sub and games. So I am now a PS5 and Claw 8 gamer.

I did also buy the Switch 2, and returned it the next day as it wasn’t even comparable to the Claw, plus I can’t stomach paying Nintendos game prices.

Ouch
Valve jacks up Steam Deck prices by as much as $300

Not surprised at the price hike but the 300 dollar price jump does hurt.
It was inevitable. However it's tragic that 5 year old consoles are seeing such big hikes without any performance improvements. I'm glad I snapped up a used one a few months ago and bought a 512GB micro SD card whilst they were cheap.

Steam machine will easily be $800-1000. The longer they wait to sell it, the more expensive it will become. I will likely buy one at launch.

Been watched the fallout from this from yesterday, 46% price increase! Lots of people coping too hoping it has no reflection on the Steam Machine pricing, I have bad news for them.. both the Steam Machine and Deck are now DOA. Best option is to get a Deck second hand or refurb if you want one.

I have more or less decided I'll get a PS6 and I fully expect to pay a grand for it. Prices are NOT dropping, Apple I am sure will raise it's pricing again, it can't keep cutting models from the lineup.. sad state of affairs the tech industry is right now, unless you are Nvidia or one of the other Ai giants of course.

Yes. The hike makes the steam deck poor value. However the steam machine will be fine if it’s $800-900. With lossless scaling or DLSS it will perform well.

And it seems the price hike had zero impact to on sales
Steam Deck sells out in North America within 24 hours of price hike

I wouldn't be surprised if the high inflation mindset was the cause. Growing up in the 70s when inflation was rampant, the mentality of buy now, because it will be even more expensive tomorrow had set in. I wonder if people jumped on this now, fearing even higher price hikes.

Possible, here in the UK they are still in stock though, funnily they had the LCD model refurb in stock and that sold out in minutes, that I think is the only model worth buying now.

Not a chance lol. Steam Machine has more RAM. I think it'll start from 1000. Either way for what it is it will be poor value. It should really cost 500 or 600 base.

Was thinking about getting one a while back before things hit the fan but decided at the time my (aging) desktop did the trick with the lower end indie I was playing at the time, figured the deck would be redundant.

Now I've been thinking about dumping the desktop going a different route for computing and splitting my casual gaming from things.

Then the deck goes out of stock. Spent funds on a few other things that are not working out the way I hoped (seriously physical games for PS5 pro I want are constantly sold out everywhere). Pricing sky rockets. Meanwhile I keep waiting for the deck then finally stock refresh, ready to whip out the plastic and order and saw the think out prices the PS5! Did think about it but opted no. If there was some kind of revision or they tossed the dock in or controller maybe.

Guess I'm sticking with my current PC build and systems or maybe moving away from gaming I'm struggling to get into as it is...

Craziness.

My 512gb I upgraded to 2TB was like $700 net. Now that would cost you like $1100 or so.

And the frigging 1TB stock is almost $1000 :O

You can always buy a Steam Deck from Valve's own refurb store, they are MUCH better prices, still with a warranty too.

It is still in stock new in the UK so we do not have people rushing out to buy it here.

Yupp. There are also other stores that sell refurbished lcd versions. I bought one that way three months and and am super happy. It replaced my Series X and has been a great companion to my pc.

As a result I am gaming more and spending elsa time scrolling on my phone. I play lots of older titles, indie and chill titles that I wouldn't bother playing on my pc that's plugged into the TV. That's for triple a titles.

Thought about a refurbished.

Actually had a thought about just going for it and going ahead anyway with something even though the older hardware. Still newer than my desktop.

Did see a few games I'm interested in are not officially supported say Skyrim should I go that way and get game through steam.

Prices are probably bound to go up even more. My desktop needs completely rebuilt. Thought I could get away with a few bios update and dropping in a new GPU and CPU but mobo limited to PCIe 3.0 😖

I joke that my OLED Deck will ultimately save me a bunch of money. I bought it so I could leave my laptop at home while on the road, but I was surprised to find myself using it at home all the time too. Of the sofa, out on the deck, wherever. I have a decent desktop rig in the study, but I've learned that the versatility of playing where I want is a bigger component of my gaming enjoyment than graphics settings or FPS.

So I think my 5800X3D/4070 will be the last desktop build I ever do. If I can have just as much fun running my Steam library on the potato that's a Steam Deck, I bet I can use it alongside a 13-14" laptop with decent integrated graphics and call it good. It'll also feel good to get off the dedicated GPU treadmill.

We have a similar setup. I have steamdeck lcd and gaming pc 5800x3d with 4070ti super 16GB vram played on an LG c1.

-Indie and older titles look less dated or low quality on steam deck than tv. Love not having to deal with gpu drivers, game launchers and windows updates. It just works.

-AAA titles and eye candy games look jaw dropping on the TV and borderline unplayable on the steam deck even with fsr4 and dlss4 mod. With dolby vision and oled tv some games are visually otherworldly - like crimson desert.

Neither is a replacement for the other. They complement each other well like a laptop and phone.😀

Yeah, it's easier for me because I'm not so hardcore - the heaviest game I play is CP 2077, which does look incredible on the 32" OLED connected to my PC. But even then I usually find myself splayed out on the sofa playing on the Deck instead. Can't be bothered to go upstairs to my study. 🙂

I've been chomping at the bit for Elder Scrolls VI - maybe that'll make me change my tune. Well, if they ever get around to releasing it!
