I guess I'm the odd one out here, but I was planning on buying one of these already, so the price drop is quite welcome!

I do wonder if this will work with a Mac at all. That would be the bees knees. It's Bluetooth, so I don't see why not. Their website doesn't indicate if it does at all, and actually seems to say it doesn't. *rubs chin*

Follow up to my previous response: the FAQ on SteelSeries' website specifically says that it's not compatible with the Mac. Given the way Apple has positioned the MFi controller API, it really should work on Mavericks, so I'd be willing to bet on it working down the line.

Though it is possible that there will be a separate Mac version, that just simply doesn't make sense, too fragmented. Apple doesn't make iOS-only bluetooth keyboards or AirPlay devices. While it's obvious Lightning connector controllers won't work, it makes sense for the bluetooth ones to work.

Never understood why they can't just use standard bluetooth. But what about a case with the components from the wireless adapter inside?

It is standard bluetooth. It's also a specific bluetooth device that is designed around specific standards. If they just said "use any bluetooth game controller", then developers would have to account for all the variants.

This is evident on Android, where games that support controllers have all sorts of quirks. With the MFi controllers, there are two specific sets of buttons, and they all are sourced from the same supplier, so they'll all work the same. The only oddness is in the allowance for both Xbox and PlayStation thumbstick layouts.

Aye, after reading into Mavericks API documentation at Apple a bit, it looks like it fully supports MFI controllers. My guess is it would have to wait for game debs to use that API in their Mac games before the controller would work.

After getting burned on the gameloft controller, I am waiting for a little bit until developers get some hands on experience with these controllers, (The gameloft controller started at $80, I purchased at $40, only 5 games supported from gameloft before they stopped, then a $10 fire sale and company bankruptcy)

That being said, I do plan on buying one once I can find them in stores and judge the build quality and app integration for myself (or the store has a good return policy if I can't try it before purchase.)

FYI when I first heard about this controller, I noticed it did not list the ipad 3rd gen as compatible. I emailed the company, and they said it would work fine. Today I read a report that on the iPhone 4S and ipad 2 the games pop up an incompatible accessory message.

I am not sure if the iPad 3 will work or not, but a would hesitate to purchase it anywhere it could not be easily returned.

I will buy one for sure! I will use it on my Mac mainly.

Just to warn you, and any others considering this, I just bought one, and it does not work with the Mac, at least not that I can get it to for now. It shows up, but when trying to connect to it, the controller goes dead and the Mac eventually gives a "cannot connect" error. And this is in Mavericks.
