I really like rhythm games, but here in Brazil we don't have many DDR cabinets like in North America, Europe and Asia, and the few that we have suffer from the same destiny around the world, to be converted to PIU cabinets.

So I decided to learn how to make the best with an PC at the time and slowly I was entering the rabbit hole of this genre.

StepMania 3.95 it's the base for the oldschool players since it was very customizable and still many consider a solid foundation.

In the Windows PC that I have an great port of SM395 was OpenITG (source code) but never was ported to anything besides Windows x86 (some x86_x64 builds and some old Linux) that even run in Windows 10-11 today.

Being able to run almost the same game in OSX was a good learning, and after a few attempts I was able to reproduce my PC build in the OSX, with the Simply Love Theme, Random background Movies (From ITG games), notes and everything!

For those who wanna try, it's just download > extract > place in the Applications folder > put some songs in the "Stepmania\Songs" and be happy.

Of course since it's my build, it was made to run on my iMac G5, so you probably will need to change the resolution, if you like to disable some options, downgrade the texture, graphics etc. It's all very customizable. Create your own profile in the options to track your burned calories etc.

Here are some resources I collected from over the years:

Zenius-i-vanisher.com

It's a great site to download all the DDR courses that was made for many platforms, since the original cabinets, home consoles, mobile etc. And they have and excellent forum

Stepmania Search - ITG

Another great sites to download ITG songs from all over the years and many community made packs as well.

Ace Of Arrows Simfiles

ITG Resource

One of the many community archives of songs, themes, guides.

DDR-DWI置き場

If you wanna learn how to edit the StepMania.ini inside "Data" folder, here's an good reference of what the options mean.

And yes, if you have an compatible platform, dance pad etc, you can map in the settings and have a really good experience. (My was made based on a PlayStation 3 USB controller)

Have fun!:D

I bet my little kids would love a step/dance type game like this. I remember these being popular in the early 2000s.
I'm a lot biased towards rhythm games in general, they are a great source of learning different music genres, pattern recognition, motor skills, and of course the Dance games in general to burn a lot of calories. In a typical session I burn + 700 calories in over an hour, so it's a great exercise. It was a genre more popular really until the late 2000's, but it's a great community that keep it alive.

Look the sites posted in the first thread that you'll find more than 500 original songs for all the official games, and 5X more community created tracks and remixes, you won't get without options.
