Anyway to get the steps count on the face of the watch? Pedometer app only counts the steps on the iphone..I want the steps counted on the watch to be displayed on the phone? anyway to do this?

I want the same and can't believe this isn't a thing after five iterations of the OS.

Apple says the rings are sufficient. Doesn't matter what we think.

I use an app called pedometer++ which allows you to add a complication that shows step count and distance on the watch face.

Have to agree though it should be included as a stock watch app

Tried that - it somehow merges both my iphone and watch step count and comes up with a different number which isn't right. Since I always wear my watch, i'd like to just have that count on the watch face. Anyway to do this?

Sadly using a complication display steps on your watch face but it’s not a “live” count. You think with the popularity of Fitbit and other trackers Apple would give us this option, they use the excuse it takes up too much battery or some other line.

Doesn't pedometer++ have a setting for that? My app is watch steps only presently, you can check it out in my sig. It's true that updates are limited to about every 10-15 minutes by watchOS.

Pedometer++, Duffy and StepsApp all have complications for the watch face. They do lag a little behind in updating the count.

Yes there’s a setting in the pedometer++ app (on the iPhone) that you can disable merging of watch and phone step counts

All are rubbish. Tried them all. None update the complication in real time.
Bit harsh. Refresh frequency obviously controlled by Apple to preserve battery life. Speaking personally, I can live with a 10 minute lag, not everyone needs to see a live count of steps. A tap of the complication will manually update anyway if you're that desperate (HealthFace).

Yeah, none of the health stuff is instantaneous. Most is within a minute or two, and stand action can count in 30-45 seconds.

Where would you need "step:1, step:2, step:3"?

All these years later and its still not easily done. For many this is the #1 requested exercise request. Can't be that difficult to make it an option to choose on or off. Especially with all the battery improvements, I'd rather this than sleep tracking (but thats just me)

Many experts, consumers and companies (like Apple and Google) no longer believe in the '10K steps a day'. There are better ways to measure and promote an active lifestyle so I can see why this isn't front and centre on the watch face

People have nearly died [insert any feature that doesn't work in any particular way a consumer would prefer].

I wonder if that's why they called it the Apple Watch, and not Apple [insert feature].

/facepalm

I would love to see the new face shown on the leaked image to have those inner circles be customizable a lot. Maybe one for steps, one for calories, one for weather and so on. Even the outer complications doing the same sorts of things as developed get creative. Rings are nice, but it would be nice to see the circle with the current numbers.

I like a few of the current Watch faces but seem to always go back to Modular because I exercise a lot and track weather and to do items. Yet, the new leaked image is a lot more classic look and feel instead of computer stats. If you catch my meaning.

Oh so many ideas.

Like exercise minutes :) would be nice to be able to change from 30 minutes. At least to me, that is way too easy. Nothing bad about it, but why can you only change calories. Minor complaint for sure.

Have a feeling we will have native step complication in OS 5. And native sleep tracking too. Just a hunch.

I agree that it's rubbish, but it's not the fault of the app makers. This is a limitation of the Watch. Apple does not allow apps to update complications in real time.

Well the rings are a different take on the movement and exercise goals during your days - it's doesn't make sense to track movement and/or steps at the same time.

If you have 500 kcal goal and have reached it but haven't got your step goal, would you go for a walk?

That cannot possibly be true. If you tap on your rings and scroll down it shows your steps. It's just not included in the rings or as a complication.

I was a Fitbit junkie, obsessed with getting 10,000 steps. Bought my first AW in October, setting it up in the store. When it came to calories, it was preset at 200 something. Mistakenly thinking that was all calories burned in a day, I upped it to the next choice, 640. Soon enough I learned it was only counting move calories, not calories throughout the day, and that goal was tough to meet despite the fact that I walk 5 miles a day. I won’t get 640 unless I do something else at the gym or another workout at home. However, in getting the 640, I ALWAYS exceed 10,000 steps...usually 15,000-17,000. It took a while to break the habit. I put pedometer ++ on the face my first week with the watch, but within a couple months the 10,000 obsession was totally gone. JMHO, but it seems to me the move ring is a far healthier concept than just steps.

You should not need to expose your health data to a third party in order to see a step count on your watch. That’s insane and irresponsible.
