I just bought a new OLED tv from lg and found out that I’ve no longer use for my Apple TV 3. All the right things Apple TV 3 does, the lg with WebOs 4 does better. I don’t know about the exact possibilities of Apple’s tv4, but I do know it has to be very compelling to convince me to ever buy one again.
Maybe when they offer it with watching free movies and shows... otherwise I think it’s another opportunity lost for Apple. Apple has to push a bit harder imho.

you're comparing a 6 year old apple tv (doesn't even support app store), to a new tv? I don't have any experience with WebOs, but usually smart tvs get laggy and stop getting updates after a few years so will be interesting to see how the newer smart tvs hold up over time. I have a new Sony with Android tv and it is super laggy and not enjoyable to use. I much prefer my 4k apple tv. That being said, I'm a cord cutter so I'm using it constantly. If all I needed was the occasional netflix or prime, a smart tv would suffice.

I thought they started as a Lucasfilm division before Disney bought them?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixar

It was but that was before it went commercial. Most everything that has made Pixar buttloads of money had Apple Inc influence indeed.

I don't know anyone who watches any of these Apple shows. They should just quit this sillyness and use the savings to lower their iPhone prices. Their iPhone prices are just too d@mn high.
How come no-one complains about luxury cars being too expensive. I'd love a Bugatti, but they're too expensive for me, I don't go onto their forums and complain that they are too expensive.

I get what you are saying and partially agree. Are you saying that Apple is only made for luxury shoppers? If you are speaking of the Veyron then that exotic supercar is not something that is common or even meant for the average Joe. I would like to think that Apple is a company that wants to sell to all people which I also understand the concern w/ pricing models. They do have entry level stuff, but I think it's marketing that should take a step back. We don't have Veyron advertising the Bugatti on television and the internet 24/7 so that may have something to do w/ the cultural "need" for expensive products.

Steve Jobs influence, sure, but where's all the Schiller, Federighi and Ives influence?

Not sure where you are going with this. The comment you quoted of mine was in defense of Apple "joining the movie industry" and why they would do this.

Nowhere really, just playing devil's advocate. You were alluding to Apple as a company being involved with Pixar when I was trying to clarify if it was Apple as a company or more of just Steve Jobs as an investor.

That doesn't mean they're qualified to create content. They should first focus on improving their trash desktops and laptops before trying their hand at cinema. It's rather embarrassing.
How is Netflix qualified? You buy content, as Netflix does and distribute it. You think NFLX is worth almost as much as Disney because they own great content?

Disney owns content...Netflix buys it. So can Apple.

Apple has different teams. One has nothing to do with the other. Same thing as the tired Emoji argument. You know, big corporations can execute several initiatives at once, as you've seen Apple do quarter after quarter after quarter.

Then what is the excuse for the Mac Mini and the Mac 'Pro' for being completely ignored for about 5 years?
They have longer lifespans and contribute less revenue than the products updated more often.

Apple has all the data they need to make decisions. I'm sorry it's not often enough for you.

Then what is the excuse for the Mac Mini and the Mac 'Pro' for being completely ignored for about 5 years?
We don't know that it's being ignored, just because they haven't released anything doesn't mean they aren't working on something.

The excuse is it's not a priority for them. Wake up and smell the coffee already. Apple is milking the mobile industry because that's where people are heading to. They are becoming more and more a lifestyle brand. They've always been lethargic and "comfortable" in iterating slowly in their tech.

I don't agree with their views, but I'm resorting back to my 2001 opinion of them again.

I don’t watch tv very often but this one might get me to look. As long as I can watch it on my iPhone.

As much as I am "kind of intrigued", not every tech company needs to get into tv content now.

Why not? What's being harmed by their involvement with television content?

I don't either, because they haven't even been released yet.

How much would you say you know about how to run a successful business?

Why does Apple think it belongs in the film industry?

"Film industry" implies major motion pictures, which doesn't sound like what they're doing here, but what compelling argument can anyone offer that they *don't* belong?

Did Apple belong in the telephone industry? How'd that work out for them?

Their qualification is that they're the richest company in the world and can buy or hire whatever they need to solve their problem.

They've got hundreds of billions of dollars tucked away to pay different teams to do vastly different things.

best known for his stint on "The Office,"?
Are you serious? His movies made him well known.

As for TV - enough with those un-reality shows - do I really need to make a list?

Steve Carell is a national treasure.

I'm not a fan of Apple branching into programming, but this script must be good to lure Steve.
He may feel like Sir Anthony Hopkins, who has said many times that he'd read the phone book if you pay him enough.

This show looks interesting. Is it interesting enough to get me and others to buy Apple TVs for our living rooms? Because if I don’t buy another Apple TV then like many I can’t watch this great new show on my TV.

Yeah we can stream it but...

Maybe Apple is making deals with TV manufacturers to put their new platform on new TVs.

But then that’s not how Apple rolls. You want apple goodness? Buy Apple products...

Apple needs their GOT to get in the living room.

But they want to do so without swear words, violence and sex in their shows.

Sounds challenging to me —- although if anybody can pull that off, it’s Apple!
