Getting back to the title of the article - jobs overseeing it? YEAH RIGHT.
He has PANCREATIC CANCER
He is having serious complications.

Steve is returning in June, if he was retiring he would have done so in January. And just because you have health issues doesn't mean your as good as dead. Glad your not a doctor, or all your patients would be dead because of some moderate issues. Oh, and he was treated for his cancer in 2004, way better from it, now he has a hormone imbalance. And saying "at least we get a two button mouse out of it"!?! You seem very insensitive. He will retire someday, maybe someday soon, but he ain't leaving at least until this holiday season, and he is not yet dead.
Oh, and without Woz, Macs, iPods, and even these forums would not exist.

I'll believe that when I see it. If a fat, steak-eating Jobs shows up on the MacWorld Summer '09 stage in June - clearly my doubts will be proven wrong.

Apple's PR machine had been generating the "Steve Jobs health report of the week" at the beginning of the year - until finally they had to at least admit that Steve was disappearing for a while.

In my mind, the big question is not whether Jobs will be able to come back in June - it's "why would he want to come back". Whether the health issues are bygone or not - anyone in that situation would think about whether to retire and enjoy life with the family, or whether to go back into the day-to-day grind.

You may not relish the day-to-day grind but I wouldn't be surprised if Steve does. He returned after his pancreatic cancer surgery and he returned after a 13-year "hiatus". He'll return again.

LOL at all the dudes hating on Jobs, without Jobs I dont even think the company would even be here. The guy saved the company and has transformed it into one of the top tech companies in the entire world. It's no wonder that after he came we started seeing wonderful products from Apple instead of the garbage they were releasing before him, I remember the crappy Macs we were using in school those days. I wanna see you go and try and do that. Jobs has achieved more than you can dream of achieving, lol.

However, Steve Jobs building a tablet is a little like Tina Turner with "Proud Mary" when she sings "but we ain't never, ever do anything nice and easy." Steve, given the task of "Small and cheap" would say "but I ain't never, ever build anything small and cheap - so I'm gonna play this tune small, but expensive!"

I don't debate any of that. However you don't have to be a nice guy nor a tech genius to be a great leader.

It's clear this guy doesn't understand leadership or the purpose of a leader.

For the record, a leader's purpose is primarily to serve as a focusing lens in achieving a plan. Leaders are best when they remember that and worst when they forget that. Patton is widely credited with being one of the greatest commanding generals of WWII, but he is also one of the most hated generals of WWII. He was effective because he understood how to lead, which primarily involves goal- and direction-setting. Likewise, Steve is hated by many -- and has been hated by many who worked for him -- but there's really no other companies I know of who have leadership quite as effective as him.
