I really would like to see a higher res "Retina Display" iPad 10" screen and a thinner bezel. Din't care for a 7" to begin with. Could not understand the 7" internet notebooks logic.

Hahahaha!!!

Didn't he bash the EVO and Droid X (4.3") for being too big? Now 7" is too small?

If 7" is too small that people can't touch it... then how do people get by with the iPhone (3.5")?

He said 7" is too small for a tablet, not too small per se: the thing about the iPad is that the extra size makes it possible to cram a lot of things on the screen and still be usable. If you shrink an iPad app down to 7" it would be much more difficult to use. That leaves upsizing iPhone apps onto a 7" screen, which is pretty pointless and the exact point he was making...

 The iPhone is smaller than 7" and there's not much it can't do.

If clicking things is difficult on 7", it must really hard on on a 3.5 inch.

Apples and oranges. iPhone doesn't try to be a tablet.

If anything they should make a larger iPhone model. I would buy a 4+inch iPhone.

Jesus Steve said 7 inch is bad, so it is, period. That should be enough to make lots of fanboys to believe that 7 inch is no good for humans. 10 inch all the way.

7" screen is small enough that it forces developers to make "phone-style" applications on them. Simplistic, single function "hierarchal" navigation panes. Compare Twitter's App for iPhone with the rich 3 sliding sheet version of the same app on iPad.

A 10" 4:3 aspect screen gives you a lot of space to display various blocks of related information.

The only advantage 7" gives developers, is that you can just port your phone app directly over without having to think. That's not an advantage for the consumer.

(and don't get me started on touch typing on a 7" screen.)

I'm so glad he confirmed this, but deep down I'd like to think that I never believed that Apple would make a 7-inch--just really wouldn't make sense.

Now...I just need my 12-in or 14-inch iPad to come out... :)

so can we delete all of those threads then? Not like anyone is going to use the search to see if it's been talked about before.

Now if only he would put that verizon rumor to bed....

No duh. The knockoff makers cannot make a tablet of comparable size as iPad, so they had to make 7" (half the screen size) to sell for about the same price as iPad.

So Apple purposely leaked hints of a 7" prototype that they never intended to be a product, everyone else knows they are late on the initial iPad, so they rush out to beat Apple to a 7"...only to find out it's not that great and Apple won't be bringing one out. Genius!

Whether that's true or not, it does seem like it could be a viable tactic for Apple, competitors will jump on any rumor of whatever they're working on.

I really didn't care if a 7inch iPad came, but didn't want Apple to do away with 9.7. Now if 9.7 can come with Retina Display, Front facing camera and slightly lighter body, that's what I'm hoping for.

This doesn't confirm anything. Steve dissed his future projects throughout history.

I was going to ask. How many times pre-2010 did Jobs confirm that they were not making an iPad? And how many times pre-2007 did he confirm they were not making an iPhone?

I don't actually know. I'm genuinely asking the question to see if this statement has any real substance behind it, or if it's just typical PR posturing.

At least that clears things up. Won't have anymore of these 7 inch iPad questions :)

Who else is there?:apple:

I have owned and used Mac's for as long as I can remember and also have the various iOS devices and iPod before that. I would not consider Steve a God. Never owned a PC in my life. :p

Some converts here see good ol' Steve-O as the Big G. I respond with, "whatever?" :D

No, you addressed a side thought I wrote about (musing whether or not there will be a big developer market for 7" screens that won't be around for more than a year or so as manufacturers switch to larger screens).

My main thought, and I'm not addressing you on this one so when I "scream" please understand I'm not doing so at you. I just get so tired of the same comment showing up again and again in this thread. So, *ahem*

He did NOT diss 3.5" screens, so stop saying that

Steve was talking about tablet sizes, not phone sizes which obviously already have a thriving app market that develops apps just right for that size.

No, when he criticized the 7" size, it was only about tablets. Having used my iPad, I know just what he means. I would hate to lose nearly half my screen. So unless droves of developers rush to the 7" market to create specialized apps that look good on 7" tablets, but bad on 10" tablets and 3.5" phones, the 7" form factor for tablets is a non-starter.

Does this mean bigger iPads are on the way???

Steve said "10-inches minimum"; does this mean there could be a larger iPad??? :D
He didn't say "10-inches only", so I'm sure we could let our imagination rumor about a larger iPad... heheh!:D
