That's how much money talking about Steve Jobs (right or wrong) makes...

If it were a movie about Nicola Tesla, Hewelet and Packard (the founders), Fairchild, etc...

Would it make that much money?

Don't think so...

I had to read this post like 3 times before I realized there was no sarcasm tag.

If it wasn't for Nicola Tesla, Steve Jobs would have been a nobody.

Our education system has truly failed.

People predicting only 20 million when it goes wide are going to be in a shock after that weekend. This thing is putting up American Sniper per screen averages, and that opened to around 90 million when it went wide. Yes, they're not exactly the same thing, but 20 million is too low of an estimate.

Kind of annoying when movies aren't just released everywhere.

I had to travel 40 miles to find a theater showing The Theory of Everything last year. I greatly enjoyed it, but it would have sucked if I had to travel all that way only for the movie to not end up being any good.
Hey , consider yourself lucky ! I would have to travel to the US if I wanted to see this film now . "Jobs" is not opening in France until January, wich is very unusual since most american movies get distributed here one or two weeks after their US release.

I went to see it in NYC last night.
I think it's beautifully crafted. Kate Winslet is the star of this movie.

I don't get why Jobs' wife wanted to kill this project. They still showed him as a loving and caring person.

She probably had little to no idea of what the movie was actually going to end up being. So rather than risk Snorkin portraying Jobs as the cold-hearted CEO he was known to be, she wanted it DOA.

Just slightly off topic - I am wondering about the whole going to the movies thing. Pretty much everyone now has a large TV screen at home (for the sake of argument say 40 inch or larger). With streaming like Netflix or Apple TV, I really don't see why people are drawn to pay so much to go to the movies. I will wait for this to come to one of my streaming services and then maybe I will watch it. But paying over $20 just for the tickets (not to mention transportation and other expenses associated with going out), for a movie that will play well on my screen at home makes no sense. Congrats to the movie for making tons of money, but please wait a little while longer before you get a few dollars from me.

At home I seriously love the "pause" option.

IMHO:

If your were insecure, immature, lazy = Jobs is a jerk to work with.

As far as his daughter and early coworkers, he certainly was a jerk.

I think an HBO series on Tesla would be great. Even just a miniseries like they did for John Adams. There is plenty of material.

Perhaps, but I have to wonder how many of those people that saw the early release weren't either Apple Enthusiasts or Mac Heads. I'd bet a great deal that most of them were one or both of the above. I doubt many average joes that are movie buffs were part of that crowd.

Actually, if Hollywood executives approached me and asked if I would rather see a movie about Steve Jobs or Nicola Tesla, I'd probably pick Tesla.

It probably wouldn't have done as well if it had been a limited release in T or C, NM, Muddy Gap, WY, or Manchester, TN, instead of NY and LA, either.

What in the world is not hyped anymore? Anything?

Some of us want to socialize outside of the house and not be hermits. Of course we understand the appeal of occasionally staying home with friends or going to someone else's movie watching party. But there's an entire world outside of the home where you get to experience and see and hear new people and things, especially if you live in a large metropolitan area. I would frame the question another way: isn't it worth $20 to get out of the house sometimes to see a movie? I've found that if you go to over 21 showings, which most cities have now, people are well-behaved and you can enjoy the show.

Perhaps I'm misreading the figures, but a total of $520,000 with a theatre average of $130,000 suggests it's only being shown in four theatres.

I'm slightly surprised that the movie is being limited to one theatre per continent on average, but I guess it gives it an exclusive feel.

I'd like to see a TV documentary over 8 episodes.

Edit: just read the rest of the article, and I see that this was a limited release. My mistake.

I have to say, films are largely lost to me in this day and age.

I torture myself by watching the trailers on IMDb, and almost invariable I hate them. I miss the golden age of film-making back in the 80s and 90s when the music was good.

Perhaps, one day in the future, the lost art of film-making will be revived. Hope springs eternal.

But that's you.

For each person that wants a good guy Nicola Tesla movie, there are 20 that want a movie about Steve Jobs that's either an angel or a demon depends who you ask.

Or else, they would have made a movie about Tesla and not SJ.

This. Kate Winslet is most certainly the star of this movie - and IMO the way Jobs was portrayed (entirely accurate or not is beside the point) was very well done and he sort of breaks through and redeems himself somewhat. The impression I got was that the older he got the more gentle he became (relatively speaking of course).

True!

Special true for "family movies", went to watch Jurassic World with my nephew, and it was SUCH a scam, it doesn't inspire anything, the original is so much memorable and more interesting, I don't think anyone talked about it after watching it.

TV/Netflix is better these days. It's supposed to be the other way, TV for crap, movies for quality, but no...

Good god, enough with the Tesla worship already. Yeah, he was a great man but he wasn't some kind of messiah and no, he wasn't responsible for every discovery and scientific advance attributed to everyone else. That was a cute meme while it was active but let it go already.
