Bloomberg reports that Steve Jobs' death certificate has been released, citing respiratory arrest and a pancreatic tumor as the cause of death. Jobs died last Wednesday at approximately 3:00 PM Pacific time.
Steve Jobs died at home of respiratory arrest and a pancreatic tumor at about 3 p.m. on Oct. 5, according to his death certificate. His occupation was listed as "entrepreneur."

The Santa Clara County Public Health Department in San Jose, California, released the document today.
While many had assumed that Jobs' death was ultimately related to the rare form of pancreatic cancer for which he was initially treated back in 2004, official word on Jobs' ailments over the past few years has been scant. Jobs underwent a liver transplant in April 2009, but even at that time the transplant was described as treating an "undisclosed medical condition" and his condition had initially been described as a "hormone imbalance" when he went on a medical leave of absence early that year.

Jobs took his final leave of absence in January of this year, with sources reporting at the time that he was dealing "immune system issues common with people who have received liver transplants" and not necessarily continued battles with pancreatic cancer.

A private funeral for Jobs was held last Friday, and Apple will be holding a celebration of his life for company employees on Wednesday, October 19th.

Rip in deed. We all found out pretty quick then. Word travels fast.

Listing Steve as an "Entrepeneur" is kind of like listing Elvis Presley as "Performer". Sure, he did that, but... There's so much more!

I remember the last few keynotes, he sounded very low and his voice was changed from previous keynotes. I wonder if that is related to the respiratory issues as the COD.

I also remember when he came out for the last keynote in June and how flattered he was at the ovation he received. I wonder if he knew then that his time left would be short

I love that his occupation was listed as "Entrepreneur", what a wonderful closing statement on how he approached the work he did.

Sad to see you go, seems like we hardly knew you.

That photo still makes me feel sad whenever I see it, which is quite often these days, but I suppose reflection on his life should be a cause for celebration, ultimately. I'm still not there yet.:(

At least it's been officially stated as Wednesday, I was going mad from all the conspiracy theorists that think he was already gone before the iPhone 4S announcement took place and that Apple had kept it quiet so as no to ruin it all.

Bloody freaks! Although they'll no doubt still believe their delusions.

Not too much room on a death certificate. His accomplishments have been well documented here and elsewhere.

I"m assuming that the respiratory issues might be related to the immunosuppessant medications necessary for transplant recipients.

I hope it was a comfortable and peaceful passing.

Rest in peace, Steve.

My mother recently passed away from pancreatic cancer and about the only saving grace was that it was peaceful for her - she fell unconscious and passed away in her sleep 12 hours later. She had an incredibly aggressive form of cancer (she passed away only 3 weeks after being diagnosed) but I hope Steve had as peaceful a passing as is possible.

It's not necessarily "respiratory issues" so much as he was just getting so weak that even breathing was a chore. So, the immediate cause of death was respiratory arrest, but that was caused by the pancreatic tumor and all the other health issues he was dealing with.

Still... very sad. I sincerely hope he was asleep when it happened, as respiratory arrest is not pleasant.

I personally wish he had followed traditional treatments when his cancer was discovered, and he just might have been here today. Instead, for a long time during this time, he followed an unorthodox diet as an attempt to more naturally cure himself. Only in the final (regarded by many as all too late) stages did he aggressively pursue more scientific treatments.

But... If I take some time to ponder this some more...

It is of course impossible to tell for sure which way would have given him more time. And if Steve was anything, he was a risk taker. Maybe this was the only path he would ever take. In that case, it is pointless to argue which treatment would have worked better for him. Because if Steve Jobs would have followed a more proven way to treat himaelf from the cancer, he may also not have been the Steve that left behind a series of jawdropping products. Also all products of him taking risks.

Maybe, in a sense, and staring fate in its eye, we couldn't have it another way than this, at least not with the Steve Jobs we came to know.
