Yay more biography details.../sarcasm. Seriously, are they saving any details for the book?

At least I won't have to wait in line or reserve a copy of this biography when buying on iBooks. I can't wait to read it.

Ever notice how digital media has destroyed the ability to hype a music or book release with long lines of people clamoring to be the first to own it so they don't have to wait for the shelves to be restocked?

I share your enthusiasm for avoiding lines. I will stand in lines for certain things, but it has to be something I want that day and it's too late to go about it any other way. Those times are rare, but it still happens.

Amazon gives me the best of both worlds for many items. I'm getting the hardcover book delivered to me with no lines to stand in. Same with videogames. I pre-ordered MW3 and not only did I get it at $40 (promo discount) but it will be in my hands on release day.

As you mentioned, iBooks is great for this as well but I haven't warmed up to digital books just yet. I wouldn't mind a complimentary digital copy when ordering a physical version though. That would be really nice.

How will this be different than the current appleTv?
Will it have HDMI in. It wouldn't surprise me if not, so you couldn't play Blu ray on it...

soo....he wanted to make the tv cost about 4 times more than they do now?

kinda hard to imagine people would fork over 4-6k for a tv....then again this is apple, people will give their left nut for it.

Mactvman is obviously not an Apple product user and therefore doesn't know why people are willing to pay more, and at time a heck of a lot more, for Apple products. Ignorance is bliss, and enables one to make dumb and stupid statements without knowing it.

No doubt there will be something about an Apple TV set that will make me want one once they announce it, but I'm primarily looking forward to seeing how they'll make a whole TV set worthwhile and go beyond what could just be done with a new or current :apple:TV set top box.

Profit margins are so low in the flat screen TV market that Apple would have to really add a lot of value to the device to justify the premium they would inevitably charge for it. Look at the Bose Videowave TV, that's only 46 inches and it's over $5k, and it's not even a very high quality TV. Take a Cinema Display and supersize it, put the :apple:TV inside the unit and some other magic ingredient? I don't see how this would compete well when there are so many other choices, they would have to bring something that made it the best of the best in order to not get lost in the sea of other TVs.

The problem is who is gana buy a new tv every time they release a new one or even every other.

Exactly. It's one thing to shell out $200 every 20 months for a new iPhone, but not $2000 for a new tv. The market is much smaller. And right now, the all in one tv's already exist.

Lovely shiny TVs are already out, look at Samsungs practically borderless LED sets. Difficult to see how Apple could improve too much on that design.

I'd love a TV as beautiful as my 23" Apple Cinema Display. Especially the back.

On a podcast from last week (can't remember which) the hypothesis was that the Apple Television would likely be aimed at being a den or bedroom TV, perhaps 32". The basis for this was that many people have living rooms set up around their big TV (or vice-versa) already, but there is always room for another TV in a den, kitchen etc.

Ugh, I pre-ordered this book awhile ago..to see all these excerpts from the book is really dragging down my interest in reading it since it seems all the good parts are the parts being leaked.

I think it would be a neat idea of Apple could somehow unify the television market instead of having the mess it is now.

Though what would this do to the Apple TV device?

Not really, because a $999 HDTV is really a poorly made tv with sub par HD quality. If I want everything in one unit, the TV itself better be the best in HD quality. Right now, that's still in the $5000 to $7000 price range in the form of the Sharp Elite series, or the now defunct Pioneer Elite series Plasmas.

I believe Apple will release a TV in late 2012 or early 2013. It will be LED not plasma and most likely come in 40" and 46".

:apple:

I can't see how this TV would work. I keep hitting a wall when I'm trying to look ahead :p

I'm sure lots of people said that about the phone and the tablet and look how that turned out.

All that runs through my mind is if they "re-invent" the tv the way they "re-invented" the phone, then we are in store for "the next big thing".

Considering his user name, one would think he's all for an Apple TV. ;)

But, in all seriousness, I just don't see how an Apple TV would become a common household item. Let's be real for a minute, right now with the way the economy is, there's no way in hell a ton of people will be lining up for an Apple TV. I can't even begin to imagine the kind of price tag it would have and I know that a product that expensive is going to cater to a smaller segment. This is basically going to be bought by the same few guys who buy Mac Pros. But, you never know. As Mactvman said, people are obsessed with all things Apple these days (myself included!) so there's no telling how we'll react once we see a finished product and what it has to offer.

And although this is probably VERY far-fetched, I'd be more impressed if AppleTV becomes a licensed feature inside other manufacturers' TVs, giving the consumer a wider range of choice. I know that if my current Apple TV were integrated to my TV I'd be thrilled. If they were able to put iTunes on PCs, I can't see why AirPlay (and any other unique Apple features that may come along) can't be put on regular TVs.

It's inevitable before this picture is made. So I made it first :D

You saw it by me first people ;)

GTFO Troll... I'm amazed some people actually go through the trouble of signing up just to say a dick comment.

Considering the fact that many Apple products are quite expensive, what about the mactvman post constitutes trolling?.

This is not a comment on whether Apple products should or should not be priced as they are. That is not the issue here. The issue is whether the comment suggesting that an Apple TV would likely be expensive and that a huge number of folks (myself included) are willing to pay a premium for the ease of use, elegant styling, and superior quality of Apple products.

mactvman's comment, IMO, is a reasonable, if colorful, statement of his opinion. Calling his post "a dick comment" seems inappropriate.

Balkan TV

Well I do not know if we will ever get an iTV but SJ was right; TV with all the power sucking set top boxes, (funding any number of oil rich terror supporting kingdoms) complex remote controls, (which may or may not require more than one remote per system) and political fighting between local stations and the cable companies, not to mention the fact that you cannot choose which stations/networks YOU want will, someday, require rationalization.

Of course it won't be plasma...

Which is unfortunate because plasma looks so great and is still superior to LCD as far as being able to produce colors. Night and day difference between my cheapie Emerson Plasma and my expensive Samsung LCD TV.

No I didn't notice that at the last Harry Potter book release.

I guess for books I should say "destroying" rather than "destroyed". For music this has already happened, but for books it is still in the making. The last Harry Potter book was released a couple years ago I believe.

Although I can't see them offering a television at a sub-$1000 price, I sure would love one. I can't imagine how nice it would look.

Just buy a Samsung LED Tv, and hook the Apple TV 3 up to it. Apple's TV set would probably just be a rebranded Samsung TV anyways.

Glad I'm not alone, was just coming in here to say is there any point in buying his book now????

For a forum where people would have great interest in the book maybe it could not be main page news as you can't avoid it as easily.
