These kinds of comments are somewhat amusing, appearing on a forum dedicated to rumors, of all things. I don't like to hear these rampant and unsubstantiated rumors flying around either, but as always, the antidote for rumors is facts -- a commodity which Apple has been pretty stingy in doling out.

There is a big difference between rumors about possible new products and something as private as the health of a stranger.

A stranger? Hm, that's an interesting way to characterize Uncle Steve. I mean, his ability to run Apple has no impact on anybody but his immediate family. Right? Wrong. Not to reopen this debate again, but the SEC is looking into this because running a public company is, by definition, not a completely private matter.

I work in healthcare, and if I blabbed about that for a NON-famous patient I'd be fired. A famous one and I would be lynched and the hospital would probably get investigated by the Joint Commission and pull our accreditation, if it was a big enough gaffe.

I work in healthcare as well (IT department). One of my colleagues got suspended without pay a few years ago for just looking at an electronic medical record of a relatively well-known athletic coach while the person was admitted.

Now, talking to the media about it? Yep, that's a "You have 5 minutes to clear your desk" action for sure. Healthcare administrations don't play with HIPAA.

About 90% of the posters here think it is a totally private matter. Their hearts are in the right place, but they are wrong. You have to disclose and when that many people are depending on you, you should disclose.

According to yet another unsubstantiated rumor. ;)

"Volunteer to sacrifice your life for Steve."

Now there's a product even Steve Jobs would have a hard time selling.

Actually, they just take part of your liver. So someone could give (part) of their liver, and would not die.

Right, and you need only look at what AAPL has done when rumors are circulated about Steve's health to know that it's of material interest to investors. It may be difficult to accept, but in no small part this is Steve's doing. He has certainly cultivated his rock-star CEO image.

Hadn't heard that. I can only imagine the interoffice memo...

Silly reportards - although he maybe our version of Britney, he mustn't be hounded at his age and health.

Barbie.
