I doubt if the Jobs family has the resources to arrange for crewing up their yacht properly from such a long distance away.

That would be the responsibility of the yacht management company that Laurene hires to take care of "those things".

She won't be hiring crew for the boat....

Nah, Samsung builds slightly higher quality ocean going vessels.

I'm not sure about "higher quality", but certainly more seaworthy. ;)

iYacht

This is the Job's family's private business. Guess MR is short of news - leave the family in peace please, such gossip makes you sound like a lot of old women without a Life.

;)

Samsung does build some pretty awesome cargo ships, though I've been on a couple military ships ( the Nimitz, and a DDG and a Sub ) as a civilian contractor, so I guess nothing impresses me ;)

It amazes me that people don't understand basic sea keeping, basic sea keeping is so important in an ocean going vessel. At the same time, this thing is not built to be out in the vast reach's.

If you want to see terrible Sea Keeping, checking out the IOWA class battleships in a storm, its pretty funny.

How does this possibly warrant front page news?

Duh, it's not. Why are you even asking? Oh Rhetorical. I get it.

Gossip, MacGossip, hey I think you're on to something

Well, I make a comment because hopefully the people who run this site respond to user feedback. I would say that by your logic, your reply to my reply is even more nonsensical.

Hey if you don't care about his comment about your comment why are you even bothering to comment about it...

Transported by ship?

I thought it was a ship - can't it make it across the Atlantic on its own?

Compare the costs of shipping it home and paying a crew to sail it back under its own power. Guarantee the shipping option is much cheaper. Not that money is really an issue to them, but why waste all the money to sail it back when the family probably does not intend to use it right away.

Designed by famed "French" designer ... I have to believe Jobs family here. Designer seems to be wanting to take advantage of Jobs wealth .... I don't believe the designer has ever heard of the words "trust" and "integrity".

With zero insight or knowledge, off course you do, this is MacRumors.

Why Phillpe Starck

Was Jobs enticed by a Design Demi-God? But Starck didn't do a great job. The boat looks quite ugly. Therefore Starck was overpaid anyway. I believe Jon Ive would have done a better job, even during working hours. That shows Jobs was already sick from VIP hybris.

Ever see those 18-wheelers carrying like 8 cars? Same concept. No one wants "miles" on their new toy before they get it. Plus, it's probably cheaper. Nor does it probably have the capability of traveling across the Atlantic pretty easily.
Thank you. Somebody gets it. The cost to get that behemoth from one coast to another are exorbitant. Fuel, Captain, staff, food etc. Not to mention the wear and tear. Having it shipped makes much more sense. Also, bear in mind that the transport vessel is *enormous* in size; more sea-worthy during rough wintertime seas.

That is one of the ugliest yachts I've ever seen.

Then don't buy one.

----------

So they just forgot to pay the bill. Prolly chump change for them.

And you forgot to read.

They paid the bill, Starck is arguing that they paid based in the wrong terms. He wanted payment based off the estimated costs which were higher than the actual ones. He's the greedy one in this case.

----------

Despite my lack of gaga factor for Jobs in general, he was very correct that one must tell people what to like or buy rather than waste time conducting research.

MUST? No. There is no must in said game. But it is easier to tell them what to like than to try to please the myriad of different tastes. That is why Apple uses said tact

But there is a proper way to provide such feedback to the site that doesn't take a thread off topic. Try it next time. You are more likely to get a better response from the site and much less annoyed replies to your thread hijacking.

Most of the crew would be full-time - you don't say "I want to cruise for a few days - hire a captain and crew".

The exception might be cabin staff (maids, kitchen/dining help) that are only needed when the owner and guests are on board. (Chef and sous-chef would likely be full-time - crew has to eat.)

According to a story on the Octopus, the annual cost of running a super-yacht averages about 10% of the price of the boat. For the Venus, that would be about $30k per day.

People used to sail in friggin caravels across the antantic 500 years ago and some here claim this state-of-the-art humongous ship can't?

Those caravels had access to an effectively limitless (though relatively slow) propulsion system. The Jobses' vessel is likely constrained by the size of its fuel tank.

I will say it again, if you are not interested in an article - don't read it.

For someone who has access to a free service, providing news stories why the moaning?

The issue isn't free or not. This is a personal matter for the Jobs family. It's an Apple rumor, its just a family issue for someone who for all intents and purposes, is no longer with Apple.
