Uhh...that would never happen because they aren't going to admit a screenshot of a conversation as evidence...and either way the screenshot would have to come from the receivers phone for it to look correct. And then to debunk it you just have to tap and hold to show the original text.

If you don't have photoshop skills there are fake iMessage screenshot generators all over the internet already.
Wrong. In a criminal case it can be presented. If the other side is too stupid to object or the Bench overrules, then it is evidence.

In a civil or family law case, the burden is MUCH less. I have many times seen a Bench officer look at a person's presented phone with text-message app open and scroll through and taken it as valid.

^THIS.

Someone could mock up a fake conversation and use it for any number of things, including fake evidence or inciting issues with others and it would be very hard to disprove due to the encryption of iMessage.

Holding down on a sticker you've received or sent displays a "Sticker Details" menu that would be a dead giveaway of a phoney message. Screenshots would have to be inadmissible.

In Phil Schiller's Office:
Eddy: What up, dawg???
Phil: I downloaded this App called Phoneys. Its stickers that make it look like the other person sent a message. Look, I made it look like Tim told me to take the rest of the week off.
(Eddy downloads it)
Eddy: Nice, dude! This app rocks! I made it look like Tim said he hated watch bands.
Phil: Oh look at this, I made it look like Tim asked me to remove the rainbow flag from the emojis.
Eddy: Ha ha ha! Nice! This thing rocks.
Phil: Oh now he says to fire Dre as his music is crap.
Eddy: Here we go. Vote Trump.

In Tim's Office:
Tim: Get Craig on the phone. We need to ban this app by the end of the day. Phil and Eddy clearly can't handle it.
Jonny: Look, I've made it look as though Angela has no idea what she is doing.
Tim: Well that isn't a lie, that's just the truth.
Jonny: Ya. You're right....not funny if its true. Did Eddy get you already on the watch bands?
Tim: I don't know why I keep any of you around.

i think the posts about apple claiming ownership of a circle or the color blue or whatever are a bit misguided.

as others have said, the potential for abuse of this app and other apps like it (if they allowed this app to exist and set precedence) is just too high. mimicking imessage messages and putting words into other peoples mouths is mostly funny for trolls.

look at it this way: if there was an app that let you text a fake "enter your iCloud password" dialogue box to your friends, it would be fake as heck and be easy for people reading this forum to detect, but would it fool some people? think about your parents, or grandparents. they could get scammed. should apple ban such an app? going with yup.

MacRumors usually doesn't mess up on headlines. But "nixed" is past-tense for already being cancelled, rejected. However, the article states that the app is granted one week to come into compliance.

Well that sucks. I submitted a sticker app and it has been "in review" for two days. A couple of the stickers kinda mimick the iMessage style. I am guessing it will be rejected. Great!

Why did you think that was a good idea?

Absolutely!! Do you know how many men and women go to court and police showing text messages from each other that include felony content ("I'm going to kill you!") or custody and visitation impacting (even restraining orders) based on pranked texts showing statements like, "I don't give a F*ck about the children or their schoolwork!!!" ?

This app should rightfully be pulled and force-updated so that users cannot create such mayhem.

eh you ... or you could simply make a fake contact and text yourself

Apple was the one that created the font, so they fully own it.

Well its not like iOS renders every font to SF by default, oh wait

Judging the humor they employ in their actions , Apple must be the funniest place to work at with the happiest employees in the entire industry .

Is #apple really taking ownership of a shape and a color?

It wouldn't be the first time.

You have to be ducking joking. That is the most insane argument I have ever heard in my life.

Yes, and they are legally right to trademark trade design. Exhibit A:

Haha a government enforced monopoly on an intangible object! Priceless!
[doublepost=1475316015][/doublepost]
not a quick or overly obvious process

Perfectly describes Apple's current software design philosophy.

They should ban photoshop too.

My view is that  is clearly entitled to protect it's IP (Colour, font etc),so if that's the actual reason fair enough, but if its about deception and 'danger', it's not really like you can generate custom messages. the list is very limited and I found it pretty harmless. my friends just did a double take and started laughing.

Quick everyone, run under Apple's blanket of safety!! Tim will hold you until all the bad things go away.

If Apple doesn't want people using the SF font....perhaps they shouldn't be giving it out to all the developers or the world. That is not good protection of IP. Second. I don't think the text bubble is a legit IP item. It is a text bubble not unlike all the other text bubbles out there. They don't own the color blue.

Some of you people are really thick and don't actually understand the app that you are praising Apple for removing. There were 28 predefined stickers that were harmless. I don't think "I am going to murder you" is one of the options. "You're my hero" is really going to allow someone to frame someone for infidelity. Do some research and use your brain! Its like all the P.C. police are coming out to make sure we are protected against things that might happen in the future. Calm down, breath, and enjoy life a little. My god!

So they should allow it? And the 1,000,000 clones on the way? Different phrases obviously would be included... as long as "I'm going to kill you?" is left out, everything else is ok? Or they write weird rules that only they know, like the people that create the movie ratings?
There's not a clear answer here.

No, they're not. Apple has not made such a claim here.

What Apple is taking exception to is an app developer creating fake Apple iMessage chat bubbles for the purpose of deceiving iMessage users. They are giving the app's developer an opportunity to modify the look so that doesn't occur.

Just don't update or you'll lose the original.
The 'just don't update' advice becomes unworkable pretty fast. I get probably 100+ app updates per week. Updating them all one-by-one manually every week compared to hitting the Update All button gets old very fast.

Do you not see you're trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist yet. A fun app was created and you think it is the end of the world. Let's start "the war on apps".

If this was 1998 and this was an addon for AIM....no one would care. But because half the population are still technology illiterate idiots in 2016, we have to have all these "protections" in place. Someone might get their precious feeling hurt and the world will end. Quick, give out everyone wins trophies!!!! I think the problem you are really trying to fix is the total saturation of stupidity in our society. That is the issue, not this app. The other problem is that most iPhone users at this point are total idiots....spend 5 minutes in the Apple Store and you will see what I mean.

The real crime is what Apple paid to create that rubbish font. Pretty sure my "1,000,000,000 fonts" CD from the 90's has a variant in there somewhere.

NW, I'd like to be ducking joking, but I have actually seen this occur 10-20 times - WITH my own eyes. It is neither unheard of nor unusual, unfortunately.

Except this kind of stuff has been going on for years and years with iOS given the closed ecosystem that is under Apple's moderation essentially. There's absolutely nothing new or surprising in any it. It's kind of just plain silly to see some sort of new "feigned" outrage about it every year.

Cineplex already stated it perfectly.

Just as a side note: Some people here claim that you could manipulate chats with it and show it as evidence to the police.

Well, that will not work well, as the "fake" message

1.) is a pre-chosen one, you cannot type what you want the bubble to state
2.) IT WILL ONLY LOOK ORIGINAL on the phone of the recipient of the sticker. On your own phone it will not look like the other person made that comment, as it will be blue on your phone with the little bubble pointing to the right. But messages you receive are grey (or green) and have the little bubble point to the left
3.) you can always see the text below if you click on it.
