Is it time for a sticky on how to make the  ?

I know there have been threads in the past. But now that Apple has made a product incorporating it, maybe it's time for a sticky or, if possible, the addition of it in the smiley menu or something to make it easy for the average poster to do.

Just a suggestion.

I just noticed that Firefox shows the Apple symbol as an empty box where Safari shows the actual symbol.

One thing: To make it visible in other browsers than Safari (and it's like) you need to Lucida (or another font that includes the apple in it's font set), or it looks like this in Firefox:

And why wasn't this request asked in the (already useless): 'Look what I can do"-thread (that I already participated in ;))...?

What's wrong with Shift+Option+K?

I didn't realize the Firefox problem, so perhaps if it could be worked into the smiley menu then? (if possible, I don't know if it is or not)...that way fonts wouldn't be a problem.

I thought the sticky request deserved it's own thread, since it's not really a how do we make the apple symbol thread but a how do we make it easy for people to use the apple symbol thread.

There is a widget you can get that shows all the special characters - its quite useful - it has more than just the standard keycaps type stuff too.

It's actually tricky...you can put it in the original post using the following (without the spaces):

& # 6 3 7 4 3 ;

But as I think Doctor Q mentioned in the other thread, if you preview the post, you have to turn it back from  to the series symbols and numbers posted above or it comes out as ? again. I think the same problem exists when you quote other posts, add in viewers on PC's at work or running in their Bootcamp partitions and suddenly...It's a little problematic, especially considering now we have the TV

Which is why I think (and like others have suggested) we need a universal (;)) apple icon/emoticon that can be inserted into posts, like the smilies.

.

I was thinking about that today, but then I thought it would be a bad idea since Windows users won't be able to see it all the time...

I'm confused. When I use the  it shows up immediately after I post it. No need to edit.

EDIT: Nevermind, I guess it does now. I thought it worked the first time in the past. Don't know what I was thinking.

Actually, it seems like a Firefox 2 (and earlier) problem... using Firefox 3 (i.e. Minefield 3.0a2pre) I can see all the little apples...

And using the usual key combination (on my Norwegian keyboard), alt-a, works like it does in Safari: 

:)

Doesn't MacRumors specify it's own font? So I'm not sure how specifying the default font will help?

Notably, though, Firefox displays it in the names of the tabs even though it doesn't display it in the HTML body....

Well, you can choose different fonts when posting:
Times New Roman 
Georgia 
Lucida Console 
Tahoma 
Courier New 

And, at least with Firefox 2 and earlier, you were only able to see the Apple when it was "written in" certain fonts, like Lucida...
