last year, I bought a Xs Max from Amazon.(sold and shipped directly from Amazon, not 3rd party). It's a locked SimpleMobile version of iPhone Xs Max. The phone was brand new.

6 months later, I'm still paying $9.99/month for AppleCare+. I usually choose to pay month-to-month, at least for the first few months after AI buy a new iPhonhe.

Since I originally only paid $349 for the phone, is $9.99 too much to pay per month for AppleCare? I assume it's $9.99 because Apple figured that it was a $1,099 phone.(Xs Max list price was $1,099 for the 64gb version)

Thanks!

Way over priced. But if you can not afford a new phone then it would be okay. I personally would never pay that for an older phone.

I have an iPhone X that I use as a backup should something happen to my 12 Pro. I had AppleCare on the X and when it hit the two year mark I chose to pay the $9.99 monthly to extend coverage. Shortly afterwards the battery on my X needed replacement, so I was glad I kept the AppleCare on it.

I STILL am paying for AppleCare. Why?

1. It's battery replacement insurance.
2. It also provides coverage if I inadvertently drop the X.

I plan to continue AppleCare coverage until I replace the 12 Pro in a year or two, at which time I will start paying for monthly AppleCare on the 12 Pro.

Consumer Reports says it almost always makes sense to skip extended warranties and put the money in a repair account. $120 / year is a huge amount for warranty service.

You're paying $120 / year for a phone you paid $350 for.

Does that make any sense? Like would you pay $30,000 for a car and then spend $10,000 a year on a warranty? Seems crazy.

I'm paying $120 a year for a phone I paid well over a thousand bucks for not $350. YMMV and your choices are not necessarily mine.

BBPB wasn't replying to you...

For OP: I'm in a similar situation as you. Considering dropping the monthly AC+ this month as I've had this phone for 3 years now ($199 + 10/mo to insure my X that I got for 650 back in 2018... yikes!). Thinking I'll just replace the X entirely once it kicks the can.

I guess it would make sense to keep if you broke your phone and were unable to pay whatever the out of pocket cost is to replace/repair.

To me it's worth it, I don't have the luxury to be able to go out and rebuy a iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch or MacBook, so I have AppleCare+ on all of them, I'd rather spend the $99 than spend over $1K.

I have the XS Max since its launch, I bought AC+ for the 2 initial years. After that I decided to not continue with a monthly sub because after 2 years I had zero issues, battery health was still at 95% and I never drop my phone (and use it without any case or protector). So its been almost a year later and glad I'm not paying for that, phone is still working great and after all this time, if something happen I'll see how it cost to repair or simply consider buying a new phone instead.

I think AC+ could worth it with the latest phones for the initial two years but for older phones its a waste IMO.

My mom traded in an XS Max for $700 trade in value originally $800 if she didn't wait past the date due. The phone still has a high value

Apple care for the XS Max is worth it if you could get it
