With the release of nexus devices there was rumor of a multi window style to be native to android.

Read all over but didn't see anything on this. Can any one verify?

Only third party skins have added it. No native support in lollipop. IMO it's not very useful. I don't want to be reading my email while watching a youtube video. If I want to read my emails I'll read my emails. If I want to watch a youtube video I'm going to watch a youtube video. Never have I actually used this on touchwiz besides playing with it, I just don't see a need to have it other than to 'brag' to your friends about it...

I used it all the time during whatsapp chat session. So much easier than toggling between windows.

I like being able to follow a live stream while browsing or carrying on a text conversation, without having to exit and reenter apps the whole time. Also when reading through a text and taking a lot of notes on it. The Note 4 will bring this to a whole other level with pop up apps. I certainly hope Google are working on this for their own devices...

This is a perfect example. I cannot tell you how many times I have multi tabs open and browsing while watching a stream of something.

I look at my Note 3 as a mini PC computer, sometimes I can sit down with it and multi window/multi task. But I can understand how that's still too small a screen for some. But I can't see how someone wouldn't use this on a larger tablet screen.

This is why I'm infinitely happy with my windows tablet, I don't have to wait for 30 year old features like multi windows out of these archaic OS's. It's amazing to me that iOS and Android don't have this, at least in their tablets.

On a phablet or tablet, multiwindow can be extremely useful.
On my S5 it's useful. On my discarded S4 it's useful.

We've been using OS's with windows for over 30 years. This feature exists for a reason. True on my Macbook Air. True on my phone.

I really hope this gets added either by Google or via XDA (there is already a Xposed module but won't work with L). On a 6" phablet its practically a necessity.

To me multiple windows takes a nice screen and turns it into two too small screens. It is something that should be reserved for tablets in my opinion. YMMV.

Hopefully it's in 5.1 since then people will have the Nexus 6 in hand already and use it on that.

You can also have one large screen and one small screen, this is useful in certain scenarios.

I enjoyed using it on my Note 2 for Google navigation and having my music showing the album art on the other half.

Just throwing this out but....

I wonder if Google and Samsung have a gentleman's agreement to not do this. It was something that was always unique (at least on a tablet) to Samsung and them being Google's dominant OEM, maybe they have some sort of agreement to not implement this. If I was Google and I wanted a unique differentiating factor for my tablets then this is one feature I would want. Doesn't make sense to leave it out.

Just wondering.

I've had that thought too. I certainly hope that's not how it is though, or at least that it will end with the Nexus 6 and 9. Not having multi screen on those beasts would be a bit silly.

The Nexus devices will have it but not officially. You will have to root and download roms that support it. It works fine on my 2013 Nexus running kitkat. With a Nexus device there are tons more possibilities than any device on the market right now.

Well, xpose doesnt work on art runtime right now... and that is the easiest way to get it.

Im pretty sure that android gets multiwindow - if not in the first version of lollipop but soon... atleast i hope.

Must say never use it on my S4, S5, Note 3, Galaxy Alpha at all. For me on a phone it doesn't work - it feels too cramped to be useful for me, especially when you factor in keyboard input into the mix.

I do occasionally use it on my Note 12.2 where it feels less restricted because of real estate.

Thats the way i feel, different stokes and all that but the more features the better.

With Apple looking to introduce quite soon for iOS or atleast their tablet range i guess its only a matter of time.

Pop up window is actually the most useful on the note...I find it very useful especially with my new note 4....

Probably not. There is evidence out there that Google has been working on implementing this.
