Anyone still rocking iOS 17.7.2 on their device? I do. iPhone 13. Why would I update? It’s still working perfectly fine. I dislike having to update every time.

Well, for me the jump to iOS 18 was because of the Home Screen customization. And a few more features that, at least for me, were worth the update.

However, I have to admit that iOS 18 has been quite a buggy system. I suspect, this was because they were too invested in iOS 26. But no regrets. Despite the increased number of bugs, I’m still quite happy with iOS 18.

As for iOS 26, I’m not sure when I’ll update my devices to it, honestly. It’s such a dramatic change that 1) I’m not sure I’m gonna love it, and 2) I’ve read that it’s much more power hungry so… I think I’ll stay on iOS 18.6.1, maybe 18.7, for a long long time.

I finally updated to 18 on my 15 pro max and while there have been a few little issues, battery seems fine. I don’t completely regret updating

Two weeks in… I regret updating. Battery is worse. Lots of weird bugs still. Keyboard is wonky. Stay on 17 boys.

Still rocking 17.7.2 on my daily driver 12 Pro and probably will continue to use that.
It was a rough ride to 17.7.2 until iOS 17 was finally worth using on a daily driver.
I don't want that buggy mess called iOS 18 on my daily driver and i have no hopes for 26 whatsoever.

I’m still on the fence on whether to upgrade to iOS 18, but will probably do it in order to extend the time that I will be able to avoid iOS 26.

A good time could be now if you wanna update to iOS 18 and keep your device secure. There has been a number of severe security issues that has been fixed since 17.7.2
I'm guessing there will be a 18.7 released alongside iOS 26, but it may be tricky to update to iOS 18 when iOS 26 has been released, so if you wanna avoid 26 but still have an updated phone, go for iOS 18 today.

Then please report back, if the juice was worth the squeeze. ;)

You are right, if we wait until 26 is released, there have caution to be used, to click the right update button (probably hidden behind a long down scrolling - like last time!) or you'll end up on 26 unintended.

Keyboard is wonky in what way? And which iPhone do you have?
Seems like the autocorrect is all over the place. I’ll type and then tap a suggested word and it will fill it in with half the word. Not even where I stopped typing. It’s very weird. I have a 15 pro max and even did a clean restore and setup as new

Thanks. Predictive text has been borked for a couple of years now, in particular when applied after editing/deleting some text, so I'm not sure you're seeing anything new here. If you have a reproducible error scenario, that would be interesting.

Worked pretty decently for me on 17 without too many major problems. But I’m seeing it a lot now where I’m typing and either the suggestions are way off or it doesn’t actually fill in the word when I tap it. Then it makes some weird spacing. I have to go back and retype it. Might just turn off all the auto text

I’m also still on iOS 17 with my iPhone 13 mini. Do not want to update the iOS. My only worry is that once the window to update the 18 is closed, we will be forced to go straight to iOS 26.

What would you suggest I do?

Upgrade to iOS 18.x while you still can. You can only downgrade until the old version is still available. Once upgrading/downgrading to iOS 18.x is no longer available, your only remaining option is iOS 26.x

If you feel that iOS 17.x is the perfect balance of stability and performance, stick with it.

I've decided, I will stay on 17.7.2 until some app forces me to update - Apple can pull my finger!
There is simply too much hassle and nips and naps around the unfinished 18, that p*sses me off.
When I'm finally forced to update, my hopes are high, that 26 is mature by then - if only for the better photos app.
YMMV but that's what I will do.

[edit] Maybe I should start a thread for "the remains" of iOS 17? ;) 😎

I think iOS 26 is really good and cannot wait to update to it from PB4

By the end of the week iOS 18 will be gone for good if you haven't updated your phone. Once you update to iOS 18 your iPhone can never return to iOS 17 though. In any case I got a 13 with iOS 18 and it's fine. Definitely not very snappy anymore but I think it does well enough for a final version.

You could upgrade to iOS 26 today and see if it's acceptable for you. Make sure to first create an encrypted local backup to your computer. If iOS 26 makes your iPhone unusable you can then downgrade to iOS 18 (only for a few more days so you should make a decision very quickly) and then restore your backup and then you can remain on iOS 18 indefinitely.

iOS 18 isn't guaranteed to be available for longer than a day or two so for anyone who wants to try out a brand new iOS I always recommend to do it right when it launches on the first day and if there are any significant issues revert immediately and restore your backup.

Finally upgraded my iPhone 13 from 17.7.2 to 18.6.2 then to 18.7. On 18.6.2 I immediately had lower cellular signal issues, and resetting network settings only helped temporarily. I even ran into an issue where the swiping up on the Lock Screen wouldn't take me to the Home Screen even though Face ID unlocked my phone..

Updated to 18.7 today and it seems the low cell signal issue is resolved. Bluetooth and WiFi are running fine too. Overall, the system runs pretty smooth and has some nice added visuals and features. Disabling some noise in the photos app makes it acceptable (only enabled media types, utilities, and albums).

Too soon to mention battery life, but honestly I don't pay much attention to it anymore. I disable battery percentage and charge when needed (usually once per day). I'll only care when something is obviously making the phone hot and draining the battery.

If it matters, my method is back up, then update via IPSW to 18.6.2 (as it's a major release), then update OTA to 18.7. Also, I keep the phone plugged into power and connected to WiFi interrupted so it can do its post-update business.

It seems like 18 is now stable enough to update!

Absolutely. I actually switched to iOS 18 on launch day and it seems the new 16 series at the time had more issues than older devices. You're good to keep iOS 18 on your iPhone 13 indefinitely, or perhaps you want to switch to iOS 26 next year. I might skip iOS 26 altogether assuming the iPhone 13 is going to get iOS 27.

Really?! 🤔

I'm still hesitant upgrading to iOS 18, cause I don't want to risk my meanwhile acceptable performance of iOS 17.7.2.

Once I make this step, there is no way back to 17 and then I read posts like this one:
and don't want to fall in Apples finely woven update trap of no way back! 👿

BTW: Why can I install older macOS versions, but not older iOS versions? 😮🤦‍♂️

Well if it's any assurance, I'm really particular about updating iOS versions as I'm also a holdout lol (and always have been since iOS 7). I notice too many little things and it does irritate me, which is why I update at the end of the cycle.

I'll post an update in a few days

iOS 18.6.2 is the last IPSW for iPhone models that can be upgraded to iOS 26

I'm guessing by Monday or Tuesday, iOS 18.6.2 will no longer be available for downgrade/upgrade so for anyone not wanting to go with iOS 26, this might be your last chance. iOS 18.7 is only OTA for iPhone models that can be upgraded to iOS 26 so once iOS 18.6.2 is disabled, iOS 26 is your only choice.

You can extend the signing period to 90 days using the DelayOTA mechanism via MDM provisioning profiles. For iOS 18.6.2, that would be until mid-December according to https://idevicecentral.com/ios-downgrade/ota-delay-profiles-ios-downgrade/. I’ve used this in the past to update to an already expired version.

17.6.1, iPhone 11 Pro. Updated from iOS 13 initially after fixing it. Works very good, want to keep it this way. Either 17 or Android, 18 was already dumpster fire, I just can’t use the fugly Photos app on it.

If Apple continues that kind of en****ification of their OS I am totally done with the brand, will only keep using old devices until they are useless
