Really?! 🤔

I'm still hesitant upgrading to iOS 18, cause I don't want to risk my meanwhile acceptable performance of iOS 17.7.2.

Once I make this step, there is no way back to 17 and then I read posts like this one:
and don't want to fall in Apples finely woven update trap of no way back! 👿

BTW: Why can I install older macOS versions, but not older iOS versions? 😮🤦‍♂️
I see your posts everywhere.... DO NOT DO IT, I promise you will regret it. I wish I could go back now

Guys, if you want to update to iOS 18 doing a clean install, hurry up because Apple will probably stop signing iOS 18.6.2 in a couple of hours. Maybe you’re lucky and have an extra day or two but… if you want to restore the phone with the 18.6.2 IPSW, do it now.

There’s no IPSW of 18.7 but you can update to it via OTA. However, don’t sleep around because maybe Apple stops signing 18.7 in a week or so.

Ok, ok, I'll stay on 17.7.2, no matter what! 🤝

Thank you for holding me back! 👍:D
Just my daily update. Today the shortcuts on the Lock Screen just have no haptics to them. Worked perfectly fine earlier today, went to use my flashlight and no haptic. Never had this problem before

Here’s another update for you. I completely forgot that on 18 we can place icons wherever we want now. So I move one down, then the next one, then the next… and the first icon jumps out of the way by itself 😂Managed to get a screen recording. It does it every time I move something next to it also. Stay on 17!

I’m just gonna keep updating this thread with my iOS 18 experience. This has been happening since updating but I just got around to posting about it. Randomly throughout my messages I see these “group” messages from numbers I’ve never seen before or got messages from. This one says I got it yesterday but it was all the way at the bottom of my conversations from weeks ago when I first updated to 18 with a clean install. Garbage software. I’m honestly looking at alternative devices now. Possibly a pixel 10 pro 🤷

To the original OP: It’s funny, after searching online, I realized I’m still rocking 17.7.2, and today is Dec 1st. I do have the option to update to 18.7.2 or iOS 26, but for some reason I just love 17.7.2 and haven’t had any issues at all. Just curious if anyone else is in the same boat. ☺️ I’m one of those that always feel updating ends up slowing everything down or the forceful upgrades.

What you're missing out:
  • Dark mode icons
  • Redesigned Control Center
  • The single page Photos app
  • Death of classic widgets
  • Ability to place icons wherever you want
At least those are what I can easily remember. I am running iOS 18.7 on iPhone 11 Pro Max and I don't like the new Photos app, the redesigned Control Center, and the death of classic widgets. I don't see the need to upgrade to iOS 26.x since iOS 18.x will be the minimum for app support for a few years and I still believe that Apple should have not offered iOS 26.x to iPhone 11 series. Reminds me of them offering iOS 9.x to iPhone 4s when it is unable to handle it.

There are starting apps to have minimum iOS version upped to 18, in my case it is the Google photos app. :(

Anyone here still rocking 17.7.2 considering updating to 18.7.3 while it is still available and if anyone did this, are you satisfied going to 18 or was it a step in the wrong direction? Will also ask the same in the iOS 18.7.3 thread...

[edit] FYI: Regarding a 12 Pro.

It’s fine on a 13 mini.

Can you still upgrade to 18 via Settings? Otherwise you’re out of luck, since 18.6.2 was the last IPSW, and more than 90 days have passed since its release, so it can’t be installed anymore even with MDM delayed OTA.

Yes, I can still upgrade to 18.7.2 via "normal" update or 18.7.3 via 18 beta channel, both OTA.

[edit] Correction: I can't update to 18.7.2 anymore, only to 18.7.3 via beta channel! 😮
I think, this is an unwanted loophole still open! ;)

Interesting, but good to know. :)

For what it's worth 26 has been better than 18 was on my 15 pro max, but still not as good as 17

I am still there and enjoying my battery life, when the apps want the minimum version to be 18, then I simply remove them, or use them on my iPad which is 18..

Apple decided for me and finally ended the 18.7.3 loophole and stopped iOS 18 completely for phones certified for 26.
So it's 17.7.2 for me until a new phone - probably not issued by Apple anyway.
