Can some tell me how to capture a still picture from iMovie that I can insert into a word document.

A quick google search for the keywords "iMovie Still Frame" gave me this thread as the first hit.

The simple 'Shift + Command +4' perhaps..
If you are capturing a 'stopped' image, then a Screen Capture 'Shift + Command +4' will get you a set of cross-hairs, and then sizing controlled by Trackpad.. Simple for most uses for me.. BUT, yes, there may well be other easy ones in the program that I have never used too!! 😎

OS X presents also 2 programs that can easily capture from screen - Grab and Preview (you need to look into File menu to find the command).
PS Apple DVD Player disabled screen capture, so you need to test if iMovie doesn't do the same.
PPS Quick Time X can do movie recording from a screen region of your choice!
