The date is November 23, 2025. I have used OS X Snow Leopard every single day for hours a day since August 28, 2009. I don't know what it is... but I just cannot use any OS past 10.8. There is just something so special about the Big Cat OS'. I just cannot and will not move on.
Anytime I have ever used an OS that's named a location my body feels sick and my hands tremble. The stock wallpapers are rubbish- some terrible realistic photo (who actually uses this junk) meanwhile the stock wallpapers on OS X 10.1-10.8 are the best wallpapers I have ever seen. The apps are dull, flat, basic, bland, and uninspiring. The UI is whack and cheaply made. I cannot use this garbage... back to Snow Leopard.

I have aqua scroll bars in SL. What a joy to look at and use. When I install new software I get too see a bright blue bar loading across the screen. So cool. The X, Minimize, and Fullscreen buttons are bright and look fantastic. The OS has ZERO bloat, its more than useable with a miniscule 2GB of DDR2 667MHz ram. There's not a bunch of background things going on spying on me. The apps look so good, unique and thoughtful. The OS is snappy and has zero delay. The UI is light-years ahead of anything since.

Using Snow Leopard in 2025 or in the past few years is better than ever in my opinion. Today you can get just about any software that used to cost alot for FREE becuase its all Abandonware now. Literally any period correct program or software your heart could ever desire is free to download and use. FinalCutProX, Logic Pro, Aperature, Adobe Photoshop, you name it all free; no subscription. Amazing. I can surf the web effortlessly with InterWeb or TenFourFox. I can watch YouTube just as-well as anywhere else with TenSixTube. What a breeze. And all on the joy of Snow Leopard. The best UI that has ever existed and even today is far superior than anything that has come out since.

I honestly don't know how more people aren't still using Snow Leopard. You do not need the latest mac or one that was even released in the past decade for that matter. My early 2008 MacBook Pro is STILL running flawlessly today 17 years later doing everything I could ever need of a computer.... Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Photoshop, 3DFX Generation, mid 2000s games, web surfing, email, youtube, it does it all on a measly 4GB of DDR2 ram. All while looking better than anything that has been released since and it actally has an ethernet port, usb ports, and a SuperDrive!!! Apple Silicon wishes.

My 2009 Mac Pro does all that and more quad booting on Leopard Server, Snow Leopard, Lion & Mountain Lion.

I hope I uplift and inspire others to dust off their old macs, or even buy an older mac so that they too can hop on Snow Leopard, post your newer mac that you don't really need on ebay/marketpalce for sale and go back to a real OS you will actally enjoy that is a joy to use every single day that isnt spying on you and stealing your personal info. There is zero need to use any OS asides from SL. Its already the best.

May Snow Leopard live long and prosper- that goes for every OS until 10.8. They all have a special place and use.
Snow Leopard is Love; Snow Leopard is Life.

I think therapy can help... 😁
Don't need that. Using a worse; cheap/free poorly made product would bring me less happiness than using the best OS ever made with far superior UI. I can still do literally EVERYTHING you can on a new mac. Why change if its already working fine and the product is better? You would have to be out of your mind to switch over just for the sake of using a "newer" OS if you can still do everything you need to do.

Likewise my 20-15 year old MacBook Pros still work and function just as good as they did from day one. Ive taken meticulous care of them; in return they have taken care of me and rewarded me with decades of daily use. By not buying a new Mac every 3-4 years ive saved myself well over $10,000+... besides it would be pointless when Im more than happy with my older Macs that still get the job done with the positive of running on an operating system that's light-years ahead of anything 10.9 and on.

When I use my early 2008 MacBook Pro at Starbucks people come up to me and give me so many compliments. People are shocked and bewildered that it looks brand new; that a 17 year old MacBook is still running let alone that I am able to do still do real work on it.
People are like " wow that things IS STILL running and you can do everything you need to do...??? Dang ive been taken for a ride; I really didn't need to buy a new MacBook every 4 years all along !!! "
People say "wow that thing looks way better than the newer macbook pros with its all silver finish; I wish newer macs looked half as good...; And your still running OS X Snow Leopard that amazing.. I miss Snow Leopard it was the best!. "

It's like its news to them that older macs can still work nearly as good as modern ones. Of coarse I won't deny that there's obviously some things it won't be up to speed accomplishing but for majority of people who just do light things its more than enough.

Ha. I have no problems with sticking to older proven OS's, but I use my machine for work ($$$), and a lot of IT policies require the use of modern updated software packages for security reasons that simply stop supporting older OS's. For a hobby machine sure, but otherwise it may not be realistic for many users.

I totally understand. It wouldn't make sense for every use case. Professionals need the latest software, on modern computers that are undoubtedly far faster & have way better battery. There is no denying that.
Using something like Snow Leopard really only makes sense in a personal setting whether it be for simple web surfing, blog posting, YouTube, period correct software, mid-late 2000's games, word documents, short video editing, etc. For all of that and similar things its definitely doable. You can definitely edit videos on a 2008 MacBook Pro in FinalCutProX but it would probably take 5-10x as long uploading and rendering videos espically higher quality vids. So its not for everyone but it just depends on the persons use case.
Majority of people 90-80% are what I would define as light users. They go on Facebook/twitter, surf the web, watch youtube, upload pictures and nothing really more. You can definitely do all that properly on a Power PC without any real issues. Which is great and fun. I love using older Macs.

Relying on an old Mac for everyday usage is living in denial. Using an old, unsupported Mac carries several significant risks.

Once Apple stops providing security updates for a macOS version, any newly discovered vulnerabilities--such as zero-day exploits, WebKit flaws, or remote code execution bugs--will remain unpatched, leaving the system exposed indefinitely.

Well in the decade or so that its been unsupported using it hours a day Ive had zero issues personally. No one is targeting a micro fraction of users on an outdated OS. Its counter-intuitive and pointless. Theres no money in it and it would be a waste of time. Why would anyone waste their time targeting 0.00001% of users when they could target 90% (windows) and have endless oportunties and things of real value to go after??? Asides from that nothing that important is stored on here. I don't do my online banking on Snow Leopard. I don't keep a password manager on here. There is virtually nothing of value on this OS. Becuase of these factors is actally far far safer than one would imagine an outdated OS to be. Just don't keep sensitive data and your golden.
I have things like 2FA turned on for my eBay so lets say for example somehow someone got my password. Ok now they still cant sign in becuase it will prompt them to enter the security code that I only recieve via my authenticar app to my phone. So even with a password they are unable to sign in.
But like I said, obviously take the precautions- don't keep sensitive info like all your password to all your personal accounts, and things of this nature and you have nothing to worry about. Don't download things from questionable sources, only from places that are vouched for. Nothing anyone can do is 100% foolproof and that goes for anyone on any OS new or old.
But its highly unlikely people are targeting a drop in the ocean rather than the ocean which is limitless and bountiful itself.

I tend to agree that the "danger" of using a Mac OS that Apple is no longer supporting is overblown. For the casual and reckless user who clicks on every link from unknown senders it could be an issue, but they will likely get into trouble using even the latest OS. I agree that with due care you can use an old Mac indefinitely, if you can live with "period correct software."
