Is there a stolen apple product, iPad, phone, etc database that would prevent the item from being used?

I has a friend get their iPad stolen in shipping, so it wasn’t locked or setup yet. Would be nice to be able to throw that serial number into the apple server to never allow it to be activated ever.

An investigation would need to be started with the shipping carrier. That is the first thing I would do. But if anything, Apple would lock it from being setup via iCloud. Other than that, I don’t know.

Not that I know of. Apple insures all shipments, so hopefully you've already received your new iPad.
We (business and education) use ADE ( previously DEP ) to 'lock' devices prior to shipment.

Only certain carriers and companies will blacklist iPads/iPhones that are lost/stolen in shipment as they keep track of the IMEI numbers. Other places like Amazon keep no record of it, unfortunately.

How did it get stolen in the first place?

It’s sad but some of these people work in shipping warehouses just so they have access to stuff. They know what the boxes look like. This is the time of year a lot of stuff gets stolen because Apple came out with their new stuff.

oops, I meant the serial numbers on iPhones/iPads as well as the IMEI numbers with carriers.

Someone at fedex stole it. He opened a case with them, but their interest level seems to be zero. It was shipped out fine but arrived with a empty box. Not even a empty shipping box but a empty iPad box inside the shipping box.

That’s a shame. Considering how tied these devices are to Apple servers it would be great to be able to say here is a serial number for a stolen device. Don’t let it connect. Don’t let it set up a ID. Don’t let it buy apps. Just lay waste to the item. Would certainly deter theft if you know that any device stolen would be a brick right away, logged in with a Apple ID, find my iPhone, or not.

Who has time to open the shipping box, then open the iPad box, take out the iPad and then repackage everything to look original then ship the repackaged empty box out without being caught? That‘s crazy!

Was the clear wrap removed from the iPad box?

Not to mention the barcode tracking that is done on everything. The packages are tracked from the moment they are packaged for shipping. They are tracked through every facility they go through. Plus they would a weight change of the package once the iPad was removed.

Makes no sense.
