Stolen iPhone... Need Advice.

Well the unthinkable happened today. My iPhone was stolen out of my car (which my girlfriend forgot to lock.. 😡). To those in the know what is my best option? Is there any chance ATT will give me a discount on a new one?

My new job (starting monday) supplies me with a cell phone (T-Mobile) so I may just cancel my contract and possibly re-up whenever the next gen iPhone is released. This stinks.. 🙁

I guess the best I can hope for is ATT offering me a discount rather than losing me as a customer. We'll see what happens I guess.

I doubt AT&T will give you a discount. It's not their fault your phone got stolen.

Did you buy the iPhone on Visa, MC or AMEX? Sometimes filing a claim with your credit card company is can result in a refund of some sort. Is AT&T or Apple responsible for your stolen iPhone? Probably not, so don't count on a discount. I had lost a Nokia, three weeks after I bought it at a subsidized price, and they told me to buy a new one at full-pop. See if you can buy one on eBay or CL, or just purchase a cheap one that you can use until you replace your iPhone. I think the price of a new unsubsidized iPhone is $499 - $599. What about an insurance claim? 🙁

If its a 3G iPhone, you can get a replacement from AT&T for $399 / $499 without extending your contract.

I just went through this, only I had a Gen 1 iPhone and I had to re-up the 2 year subscription.

I bought it with my Visa... How long will the typically cover purchases? I don't expect a discount by any means, just looking for my best option. I'll more than likely cancel my contract and use my work phone for a while. That will save me $110 a month until I decide to get another iPhone which will probably be when they release the model. I just feel like dropping $600+ on a replacement phone right now.

I had my iPhone stolen as well recently. If you haven't already, have AT&T disable your SIM card and flag your IMEI number as stolen. That way the person who took it can't make any calls/texts on your SIM and if they bring it to an Apple/AT&T store they can confiscate it. You can buy the iPhone for $399/$499 (8 GB, 16 GB) and your contract with AT&T will last for 2 years from purchase date (current bill cycle continues as normal). Or you can just buy it for $599 with no contract and then jailbreak it to use with T-Mobile. Also, check your online bill to see if the person who took it made any calls on your SIM, then you've got some info to get a police investigation going with.
