Man that must suck... I hope insurance covers your MBP and iPod. What sort of stuff is on the iPod that you don't want anyone to find?

By the way, even though the MBP has a password on it, there are people that can hack through all that stuff and get files, even ones that are deleted (as long as you haven't used SL's secure empty trash) My Dad works with crime law, and he doesn't sell his old Macs when he gets new ones, he chucks them out (or gives them to me) because of that... Of course SL's secure empty trash will change that, so he'll be able to sell his next Mac...

Anyway, I hope you don't have really important stuff on there you don't want anyone to see... They might not bother trying to get in, because they don't know that anything important is on there...

best of luck!

I do usually sell my old mac to help pay for a new one, but you make a good point and I will consider not doing that anymore.

As for the information on my iPod and Laptop, you know I don't have that sensitive of information on it I guess. My resumes, contacts, TV shows and movies and my portfolio (im in graphic design). It's just an uncomfortable feeling having your information out there, kinda like feeling you've been violated (for lack of a better term). My police friend (he's not involved with my case) says that most of the people that do this type of random crime aren't out for your info, just money and that if anything it would be formatted and sold. Told me not to worry.

I looked into the security programs mentioned, seems pretty cool. I wish I had known about this before, but I was one those "it will never happen to me" type person.

Have any of you heard the story of an Apple employee in New York that used the "back to my mac" function on mobile me to get her stolen computer back? Apparently she was able to remote access her computer and used photo booth to take pictures of the criminals that happened to be a friend of a friend.

Can someone explain how to do this?

Thanks

Too bad some of the cars don't have a locking trunk release, I guess for those it is easier to pop the panel and disable it.

Hope you didn't have an Apple sticker on the car. ;)

that's why I love German cars. You can lock the trunk, disabling the interior access.

I would think most enterprising thieves will peek at the contents of your HD to acquire personal information for the purposes of identity theft or to uncover embarrassing data for blackmail. If they're willing to physically break into your car, why stop there?

You might want to get new credit cards and change the passwords of sites you visit which have been saved in your browser history too.
