Can we stop with the whole "it's just the first beta" crap? It doesn't matter.
Cosmetic things, particularly major design decisions, are not going to change until the release.
Especially not the icons, which were featured in Apple's lengthy iOS 7 introduction video. Apple touted them as "measured to perfection" or some other nonsense (and ironically they demonstrated it on the Safari icon, which is one of the worst offenders).

Remember back in iOS 6 betas? People were claiming that the new Maps app will turn out just fine. Nothing changed. That's not what public betas are for!

It is not in Apple's best interest to spend millions promoting a new feature, only to release a severely-crippled/hideous version to beta testers worldwide. The icons and such aren't changing. That's not how Apple works.

I unfortunately have the same fear. Now, I think Apple knows that this redesign is a huge undertaking, a serious misstep on many levels, and thus a work in progress. I hope they use the betas and keep their visual designers busy righting all their wrongs. But historically speaking, it's unlikely the final product will be significantly different (which I think it needs to be).

Reminds me of when iTunes 10 was released. Lots of criticism with the new logo and Jobs replied to an email saying "we disagree." Same logo for another two years.

Yeah, the only thing will change is continuous crashing and slowness of it all.

Look at apples website right now. They are plastering iOS 7 all over it as if it's out for the public right now. Let's be honest, those hideous icons are not changing. Apple loves them and thinks they're perfect as is. Fall will come and iOS 7 will release alongside the next iPhone and it will look just like it does now.

Wow, Apple provided a lot of needed functionality/features to iOS and all people can talk about is app icons. And a lot of people complaining about them probably don't even use most of Apple's stock apps to begin with and just shove them in a folder.

Its not just the icons. They design inside the apps look bad too in my opinion. The notification center looks alright I guess but I'm not a big fan of the whole translucency thing going on in the UI. The control center looks like a mess and resembles a cheap jailbreak tweak. NCSettings looks way better. The new multitasking tray just looks like a kiddier version of Auxo. The way folders look now is hideous and is going to clash a lot with people's wallpapers

I love it as it is. Some people will literally complain about anything.

How about we talk about Beta1 on the iphone 5 being smoother than Android on the Galaxy S4? No? Okay as you were.............

Actually, Maps improved with every Beta. There were tons of screenshots posted to prove it. Of course the whole world wasn't corrected, but there were improvements in certain areas.
