So yesterday I got a storage is full message on my series 3 watch.

I’m not sure how to get back any space though as the watch has no music or photos to delete.

so how do I free up some space?

What is the total storage on that watch? Music shows nil, but, do you even have music on the watch?

On my watch, I have 9GB available and 2.5GB used. Hence, my question about your total storage.

I think it’s 4gb on the series 3. I don’t have music on the watch.
I would unpair then repair again even after you just did it after device swap. Worth a try.
Will give it a go!

This is a known issue and everybody has been waiting on a fix. I've found if you simply reboot the watch that will usually free up a little bit of space, but if it's a real issue then you should unpair and set it up as a new watch.

And we're back to storage full.

I've added nothing. I don't want to set up as a new watch because it voids the point of backups.

Ah, OK, if you restore from backup the problem still exists which is annoying. Assume you have cleared old iMessages, Emails etc from the watch, you will need to delete quite a few but it could help. Otherwise the only way I resolved this was setting up as new, clearing messages helped but not enough.

I assumed there were temporary or system files stored somewhere which couldn't be cleared by the user.

I delete iMessages after I’ve read them. With email deleting it on the phone deletes it from my inbox so can’t do that with mail I need/want to keep.

I have no music. No photos and only three aps installed.

I have the same issue. All I can determine is that it has to do with iCloud. If you set up the watch with a phone not logged in your iCloud account, no issues. Obviously, no ideal, but I haven’t found another fix. I have cleared up all my reminders, mail, no music, no photo syncing, and only thing left is iMessage. But I don’t want to delete those just yet. Here is hoping it’s fixed by Apple soon.
