So I was able to free up 3 GB on my iPhone 5s a couple days ago by deleting a ton of apps, pics, messages, and videos.. but today I checked my iPhone storage and it's back down to under 1GB... How does this happen!? I haven't downloaded any new apps or anything.... What do I need to do to maintain 3 GB or even more?

Do you have iCloud Photo library to optimize storage?

I would say you phone is enjoying the extra space and the OS is claiming what it would like to work efficiently.

The storage on the phone will change depending on what is open and what is using the storage. Just using Google Music for an hour can take gigs of storage. Restarting your phone can release some of that storage too.
