Strane printer behavior

A Brother HL-2070N has been the sole printer attached to my systen -- G5 Leopard. It is a B&W printer. Yesterday I added a color printer (Canon C4550) so i could print my own photos. I kept the Brother as the default. This morning I tried to print on the brother but go an error message saying "printer currently is offline" and I could not get it to print. I uninstalled, but have not been able to re-install. When it gets to the point where it says to click on the Setup utility icon, there is no icon. The system restarts bu there is no Brother in my Applications list. Additionally, I have bene unable to get the Brotehr to print a test page. It goes through the motions and it whirls away, but no product.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think I've isolated the problem to the Printer Setup Utility. It doesn't show up in my Applications list but I found it buried in "Coreservices." However, i can't get it to open.
