In an effort to compel Apple Music to rematch my library (see another thread I recently started), I deleted all my uploaded tracks from Apple Music, but kept the "physical" tracks on my hard drive. I then turned Apple Music off, restarted iTunes, and turned it back on. This resulted in Apple Music trying to download about 1/20th of the songs in my library (even though I had the original file in the library) and marking the iCloud status of the rest as "removed." This actually isn't a major issue since I can simply deleting the newly downloaded tracks.
This issue that I can't deal with is that reactivating Apple Music also deletes the contents of every playlist I have. The playlist folders continue to exist, but all the tracks are gone. It isn't a meta-data thing, since playcounts and whatnot remain. Since I basically listen to music through Playlists, and I've got dozens if not hundreds of them, going back and reassembling the would take a prohibitive amount of time.
I've tried restoring the .itl and .xml files and even the entire library and it always does this immediately upon opening iTunes. The workaround that I've determined is to take the machine offline when I open iTunes so that it can't communicate with Apple Music, then turn off Apple Music in preferences. This keeps the library and playlists intact, but of course I'm no longer able to actually use Apple Music.
So, any idea on getting Apple Music to not want to reset my playlists? Or totally resetting my Apple Music account so that it truly starts over?
